The Altura was carrying around 140k tons of oil from Russia\u2019s Novorossiysk port. Ankara has already been dealing with the fallout from Hormuz disruptions \u2014 including <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/turkish-owned-ship-allowed-pass-through-strait-hormuz-minister-says-2026-03-13\/\" style=\"\">stranded<\/a> Turkish-owned vessels and heightened security warnings around the Gulf. A strike this close to Istanbul adds a second pressure point by threatening the outlet for Black Sea barrels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Meanwhile, Iranian strikes <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/media.ega.ae\/ega-al-taweelah-site-at-kezad-sustains-significant-damage\/\" style=\"\">caused \u201csignificant damage\u201d<\/a><\/strong><strong> to a smelter run by Emirates Global <\/strong><strong>Aluminium<\/strong> \u2014 the region\u2019s largest aluminum manufacturer. The ship reportedly passed through a narrow route between islands close to the Iranian border, alongside two LPG tankers and four bulk carriers from the GCC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>That\u2019s still a small fraction of the prewar levels of Saudi crude passing through the strait<\/strong>, which remains effectively closed. Most of our exports are now rerouted through the East-West pipeline and shipped through the Yanbu Port.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>It\u2019s business as usual for Iranian tankers: <\/strong>Iran-linked crude continues to cross the strait, carrying an average of 1.6 mn bbl \/ d in the first three weeks of March, Bloomberg cited data from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tankertrackers.com\" style=\"\">TankerTrackers.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Also from Saudi:<\/strong> The Kingdom\u2019s East-West pipeline, which bypasses the Strait of Hormuz, is now pumping at its full capacity of 7 mn bbl \/ d, a source familiar with the matter told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-03-28\/saudi-pipeline-that-bypasses-hormuz-hits-7-million-barrel-goal?srnd=homepage-americas\" style=\"\">Bloomberg<\/a>. Exports via the Red Sea port of Yanbu have reached about 5 mn bbl \/ d, with an additional 700k-900k bbl \/ d of refined products, while 2 mn bbl \/ d feed domestic refineries. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why it matters: <\/strong>This bypass is credited with preventing oil prices from hitting catastrophic highs, despite the loss of some 15 mn bbl \/ d that typically transits Hormuz. Emergency fuel surcharges \u2014 like CMA CGM\u2019s USD 180 container surcharge \u2014 are now being added on top.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Market watch<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Oil prices rose this morning \u2014 with Brent set for a record month \u2014 after Houthi attacks <\/strong><strong>on Israel escalated the ongoing war<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/oil-prices-jump-after-yemeni-houthis-attack-israel-widening-iran-conflict-2026-03-29\/\" style=\"\">Reuters<\/a> reports. Brent crude futures increased USD 2.43 to trade at USD 115 \/ bbl by 03.42 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) gained USD 1.86 to USD 101.50 \/ bbl.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Closer to home:<\/strong> <strong>The UAE\u2019s primary bunkering hub, Fujairah, has se<\/strong><strong>en a significant surge in crude flows<\/strong>, with loadings averaging 1.9 mn bbl \/ d between 20 and 24 March \u2014 a 57% jump from the 2025 average, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-03-27\/uae-port-ramps-up-hormuz-dodging-oil-flows-after-iranian-strikes\" style=\"\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports. The ramp-up comes as Adnoc successfully restored loading capacity in Fujairah \u2014 which hosts the Adcop pipeline, the only alternative to the Strait of Hormuz for the UAE \u2014 following Iranian drone strikes earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The catch: <\/strong>While crude flows have recovered, refined product exports remain constrained. The strikes damaged critical systems known as matrix manifolds, which manage the flow of oil from storage tanks through the port\u2019s pipeline network to multiple berths.
