Sisco-backed GDI has fully bought out cold-chain specialist Transcorp, and MSC\u2019s logistics arm is building a massive new hub in Jeddah\u2019s industrial city. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>We\u2019re<\/strong><strong> also looking at the cost of keeping the lights on in Egypt <\/strong>\u2014 with the government ready to take on a USD 11 bn bill to secure the needed LNG supplies through 3Q. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">The big logistics story abroad<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Hapag<\/strong><strong>-<\/strong><strong>Lloyd<\/strong><strong> expands global market share via Zim merger: <\/strong>German shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd is set to acquire Israeli shipping firm Zim for USD 4.2 bn \u2014 a move that would <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/hapag-lloyd-advanced-talks-acquire-israels-zim-integrated-shipping-2026-02-16\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">scale<\/a> Hapag-Lloyd\u2019s global market share from 7% to 9%, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2026\/2\/1095.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">press release (pdf)<\/a>. The agreement is set to close by late 2026, pending a gauntlet of regulatory approvals from 10 Israeli security and regulatory bodies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>A carve-out complication: <\/strong>While Hapag-Lloyd takes control of Zim\u2019s international routes, brand, and chartered vessels, a carve-out agreement will see Israeli private equity fund FIMI form a new entity, New Zim, to take over 16 Israeli-flagged vessels \u2014 allowing the country to maintain some control over its sea connectivity. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This is good news for Hapag-Lloyd and its Gemini Cooperation<\/strong>, as they gain access to Zim\u2019s wide network of operations <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zim.com\/about-zim\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">across 300 ports<\/a> in over 90 countries, including the Mediterranean. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Watch this space<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt1\"><\/a>  ENERGY \u2014 The government <\/strong><strong>is<\/strong><strong> wagering that a no-blackout summer is worth <\/strong><strong>a sizable deficit hit<\/strong>, with the country looking to secure USD 11 bn in LNG across 130 shipments starting June while also ruling out any electricity price hikes until then, two government officials tell EnterpriseAM. In the current climate, it seems the state thinks that a predictable operating environment and social stability are more important than the need to continue clamping down on energy spending.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The news also illustrates continuity in the state\u2019s approach to its LNG needs<\/strong>, as the planned shipments will stem from the renewal of expiring supply agreements with Saudi Aramco, Trafigura, Vitol, Hartree Partners, and BGN, a government source in the oil sector tells us. The contracts will also allow cargoes to be deferred if demand softens \u2014 a pressure valve we leaned on last year too \u2014 while foreign companies will have to prioritize domestic demand starting April.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Progress toward long-term energy independence will also support the state in keeping <\/strong><strong>its commitment to have no power outages<\/strong> despite an expected demand rise of 6-7% in the hotter months of the year, a senior government source tells us. The official described a multi-pronged approach that will lean on boosting domestic fossil fuel production and building up renewable capacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a> LNG \u2014 Acwa \ud83e\udd1d Vitol in South Africa: <\/strong>Acwa is part of a consortium backed by commodity player Vitol to build a USD 3 bn gas-fired power plant and LNG import facility at the Durban port on South Africa\u2019s east coast, a Vitol spokesperson told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/vitol-backs-proposed-3-billion-lng-power-plant-south-africas-durban-port-2026-02-16\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>. The consortium also includes Vitol\u2019s Vivo Energy and terminal operator VTTI.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>How much capacity are we talking? Somewhere between 1-1.8 GW<\/strong>, according to a document seen by Reuters.
