margin: 0px; font-size: 11pt; line-height: 1.15; orphans: 2; widows: 2; text-align: left;\">On the side of ports, AD Ports is making a move on Matidi port in the DRC, inking an agreement exploring a new terminal development. Meanwhile, Morocco hit the brakes on the tender for the widely-followed LNG terminal and pipelines project.<\/p>\n<p>Over in Algeria, rail is the star of the day. The North African country has been ramping up its rail connectivity lately \u2014 and the recent launch of the Western Mining Railway is a case in point. The 950 km rail will link the iron ore-rich southwestern Algeria to industrial hubs and ports in the north, and is part of Algeria\u2019s push to capitalize on its resource-rich economy. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Watch this space<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt1\"><\/a>  LNG \u2014 <\/strong><strong>Morocco<\/strong> <strong>has frozen the tender process for its USD 1 bn LNG <\/strong><strong>import <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-02-02\/morocco-pauses-1-billion-plan-for-mediterranean-lng-import-hub\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">terminal<\/a><\/strong> <strong> and pipeline corridor at Nador West Med Port<\/strong>, after projections from the Finance Ministry, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/moroccos-finance-ministry-vetoes-pipeline-tender-2026-02-03\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reports, citing an informed source and a ministry memo it has seen. A new tender may be in the works, but no timeline was given by Moroccan officials. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Bureaucratic infighting? <\/strong>The memo shows the Finance Ministry criticizing the release of the tender \u2014 which the Energy Ministry launched last month \u2014 without its sign-off on the project\u2019s eligibility for a public-private partnership status and pointing to a lack of clarity on which government agency should lead the project. The ministry also raised concerns about \u201cbudget sustainability\u201d and an \u201cunbalanced allocation of risks between the private operator and the public entity,\u201d Reuters reports. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Or shifting market dynamics? <\/strong>The country\u2019s Energy Ministry is framing the suspension as driven by the need to review the project's \u201cparameters and assumptions\u201d in light of shifting market conditions and price volatility, the Energy Ministry\u2019s Senior Official for Renewables and Energy Efficiency Mohamed Ouhmed told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-02-03\/morocco-looks-to-resume-1-billion-lng-project-in-due-course\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Background: <\/strong>The project is part of a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/logistics\/2025\/04\/23\/morocco-seeks-energy-hub-status-with-lng-terminal-and-gas-pipeline\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">bigger picture plan<\/a> by Morocco to shore up its status as a regional energy hub, as well as meet rising local demand for natural gas \u2014 which is forecast to hit 8 bn cbm by 2027, up from 1.2 bn cbm. The pipelines are designed to ultimately connect to the 6.8k African-Atlantic Pipeline \u2014 a USD 25 bn pipeline project currently under consideration that will link West Africa and Morocco, with a targeted capacity to move up to 30 bn cbm of gas annually. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a> INVESTMENT \u2014 Saudi is planning to invest in a new privately-held airline in Syria<\/strong>, head of the Syrian Investment Authority Talal Al Helali told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/saudi-arabia-set-announce-major-new-syria-investments-syrian-official-says-2026-02-03\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai.
