The build-up for the \u201csnapback\u201d sanctions in both intergovernmental institutions was led by European powers Germany, France, and the UK \u2014 known as the E3 \u2014 which have remained committed to the 2015 arrangement despite the US withdrawal in 2018 during President Donald Trump\u2019s first administration. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Some of the EU sanctions will target several aspects of the Iranian logistics sector<\/strong>, including measures to bar Iranian cargo flights from accessing EU airports; a ban on the maintenance or servicing of Iranian cargo aircraft or vessels transporting restricted materials or goods; and a halt to the import and transportation of Iranian crude oil, natural gas, petrochemical, petroleum products, and related services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>There are signs that the snapback sanctions \u2014 especially the UN\u2019s \u2014 could tighten the <\/strong><strong>screws on Iranian crude trade<\/strong>. For example, several terminal operators in China\u2019s Shandong province are said to be preparing measures to bar old tankers that carry sanctioned Iranian crude from their facilities, according to a notice issued by four terminal operators at Qingdao Port Authority-owned Huangdao Port seen by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/china-oil-port-set-introduce-measures-ban-shadow-fleet-2025-09-26\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> on Friday. The measures are set to be imposed starting 1 November. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The criteria: <\/strong>The sanctions will target vessels that are 31 years or older, as well as vessels using fraudulent International Maritime Organization certificates, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-09-29\/china-s-key-oil-port-to-roll-out-measures-that-curb-shadow-fleet\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports. Other vessels entering ports in Shandong province will be rated on a score based on the risk level \u2014 determined by a vessel\u2019s age and pollution liability.
