The terminal tender \u2014 launched by South Africa\u2019s state-owned logistics company Transnet on Monday \u2014 covers a 25-year concession and the development of 15 berths with a handling capacity of over 7 mn tonnes of cargo annually.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The development will capitalize on South Africa\u2019s booming agricultural exports<\/strong>, which hit an all-time high of USD 13.2 bn in 2023. The country is also the world\u2019s second-biggest exporter of citrus, with the Middle East and South Korea being some of its major markets.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>There\u2019s more for RSGTI in Africa\u2019s biggest economy: <\/strong>The Saudi port operator was reported <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/4c9cfec9-e191-4018-a248-fddf80ac80d1\/today:-morocco%25e2%2580%2599s-ocp-eurobonds-%2B-avilease-secures-usd-1.5-bn-syndicated-loan\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">late last month<\/a> to be eying several investments in South Africa, including a possible USD 600 mn bid at Durban port and another for Cape Town port. The focus comes as the company advances a continental push, with a special focus on multipurpose terminals shipping mining and food products, the firm\u2019s director of Global Investments Gagan Seksaria told Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Meanwhile, South Africa is hoping that attracting private industry <\/strong><strong>players could help revamp its ailing ports<\/strong>, which have been dragged down by allegations of corruption and poor performance. Transnet ports rank among the least efficient in the world, undermining the country\u2019s coal and iron-ore exports, Bloomberg reports, citing World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence data. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a> <\/strong><strong>#2- US-based Vernbro Global Investment is planning to double its investments in Egypt\u2019s logistics zones projects to <\/strong><strong>EGP 100 bn over the next five years<\/strong>, Chairman Ashraf Dous told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hapijournal.com\/2025\/04\/27\/%d9%81%d9%8a%d8%b1%d9%86%d8%a8%d8%b1%d9%88-%d8%ac%d9%84%d9%88%d8%a8%d8%a7%d9%84-%d8%aa%d8%b3%d8%aa%d9%87%d8%af%d9%81-%d9%85%d8%b6%d8%a7%d8%b9%d9%81%d8%a9-%d8%a7%d8%b3%d8%aa%d8%ab%d9%85\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Hapi Journal<\/a>. The company currently has around EGP 50 bn invested in the Egyptian market, including in two under-development logistics zone projects in Gharbia and Kafr El Sheikh.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Vernbro is also eyeing an expansion into Upper Egypt<\/strong>, with plans to build a logistics zone in New Assiut City that would be twice the size of its Tanta project. The new hub would carry an initial investment cost of around EGP 50 bn, with work expected to begin within a year after Kafr El Sheikh wraps up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a>#3- Qatari royal backs Maldivian freezone plans: <\/strong>The Maldivian gov\u2019t \u2014 backed by Qatar\u2019i royal Sheikh Nayef Bin Eid Al Thani\u2019s private investment arm <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mbs.investments\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">MBS Global Investments<\/a> \u2014 is planning to build a USD 8.8 bn financial hub designed to serve as a freezone for blockchain and digital assets, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-05-04\/maldives-plans-8-8-billion-financial-hub-backed-by-qatari-royal\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports. The center \u2014 dubbed The Maldives International Financial Center \u2014 is slated to be built in Mal\u00e9 over the next five years. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The case for it: <\/strong>The move comes as cash-strapped Maldives work on addressing its looming debt repayments within the next two years, as well as diversify it from tourism and fisheries, Maldivian Finance Minister Moosa Zameer told the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/70cba9ec-caad-4958-bed9-59d43e8da6c2\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times<\/a>. The oil group once again cited healthy market fundamentals as the driver behind the decision.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>All eyes on Saudi:<\/strong> \u201cThe key to knowing how far the Saudis will take what is starting to look like a price war is the nation\u2019s tolerance for low oil prices over time,\u201d head of Morgan Stanley\u2019s commodities strategy department Warren Patterson. The price drop threatens to pressure Opec+ economies, including Saudi Arabia, which needs prices above USD 90 to balance its budget.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">DATA POINT- <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#1- Dubai is planning to expand its data center capacity fivefold by 2028<\/strong>, Dubai Data and Statistics CEO Younus Al Nasser told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.albayan.ae\/economy\/business\/uae-economy\/43405\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Albayan<\/a>. Data centers in the Emirates are expected to contribute AED 14.3 bn by 2028 to its economy. Sixteen of the country\u2019s total 30 data centers are in Dubai, whilst the UAE data centers account for 42% of the GCC total.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#2- Dubai is set to complete 57 major road projects by 2027<\/strong>, boosting its transportation infrastructure with 115 bridges and tunnels, and 226 km of road, according to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaoffice.ae\/en\/news\/2025\/may\/04-05\/hamdan-bin-mohammed-reviews-progress-of-key-strategic-road-corridors\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Dubai Media Office<\/a>. The projects are part of a wider plan to develop 11 primary road corridors to meet the needs of its growing population, which is predicted to hit 8 mn by 2040.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The upgrades are set to reduce congestion and travel times by as much as 35 minutes on <\/strong><strong>key routes<\/strong>, including the Umm Suqeim-Al Qadra corridor, Hessa Street, and Sheikh Zayed Road.
