Over 400 attendees had ten seconds to respond to each of ten questions. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The topic on everyone\u2019s minds \u2014 the US\u2019 trade war \u2014 was clearly causing anxiety<\/strong>, with most of the attendees (58%) expecting the trade war to escalate further from here, while 42% expect no further escalation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The impact of the trade war is already trickling down to oil prices<\/strong>, prompting nearly half (48%) of respondents to project an average price of USD 70 per bbl for oil this year. Some 38% were even more pessimistic, forecasting a price of USD 60 \/ bbl or less. Oil prices have taken a hit over the past week since the tariffs were announced, with Brent crude reaching a low of USD 63 at one point.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Gold prices, on the other hand, are expected to rise<\/strong> \u2014 79% of attendees expect it to end the year higher, as investors rush to haven assets amid rising uncertainty. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The majority of respondents also expect the S&P 500 to have a correction year<\/strong> \u2014 understandable given the sell-off that has taken place since the announcement of the tariffs, wiping tns of USDs in stock value and bringing it dangerously close to bear market territory. The S&P 500 ended yesterday down 0.2%, and 17.6% below its February peak.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The one thing that hasn\u2019t changed much since the tariffs \u2014 expectations of the US<\/strong><strong> Federal Reserve\u2019s interest rate cuts this year. <\/strong>The majority of respondents \u2014 46% \u2014 still see two cuts of 25 bps taking place this year, in line with what most Fed policymakers had <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/544bd2b8-15a5-4aa1-ac24-39f4f8be6501\/fed-holds%253cmark%253e-rates%253c%2Fmark%253e-steady,-warns-of-rising-inflation-and-slower-economic-growth\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">penciled in<\/a> earlier. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Zooming in on the Middle East, most (39%) of the attendees still see the Sa<\/strong><strong>udi stock market delivering the best performance in USD terms<\/strong> \u2014 same as <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/256d3f69-5f91-45b0-b65e-bd8ec0c86e5c\/results-of-efg-hermes-research%25e2%2580%2599s-annual%253cmark%253e%253cmark%253e-one%253c%2Fmark%253e%253c%2Fmark%253e-%253cmark%253eon%253c%2Fmark%253e-%253cmark%253e%253cmark%253e-one%253c%2Fmark%253e%253c%2Fmark%253e-live-poll-are-out\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">last year<\/a> \u2014 while 22% chose Dubai. This, coupled with competition across the non-oil economy led to a drop in selling prices \u2014 the first such decline in six months.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Employment growth remained largely unchanged from February\u2019s 16-month high,<\/strong> boosted by the increased sales volumes, with firms emphasizing \u201cefforts to build their sales teams and overall capacity.\u201d The first quarter of the year marks \u201cthe fastest pace of jobs growth since the third quarter of 2012,\u201d according to survey data. \u201cRising employment rates are a direct benefit of businesses scaling up operations to meet demand. Egypt\u2019s headline figure fell 0.9 percentage points to 49.2 in March, down from 50.1 in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/33d29357-e82a-4b74-abc1-ecc36bbb13c3\/ksa,-kuwait-and-egypt-non-oil-private-sectors-continue-growth-at-a-slower-pace\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">February<\/a> \u2014 however, despite the fall, the reading \u201cremained higher than its long-run trend, suggesting that businesses are still in a good overall position,\u201d Owen said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>New orders from both local and international sources fell,<\/strong> leading to local companies to trim spending and reduce operations.
