In today\u2019s issue, we have updates on rail production and road projects from Egypt and Bahrain, as well as the latest on Egypt\u2019s efforts to adapt to the incoming changes in global trade. But first, more on Trump\u2019s ever-developing tariff moves\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt3\"><\/a>THE BIG LOGISTICS STORY- <\/strong><strong>Trump confirmed a new 25% \u201csecondary tariff\u201d on any country purchasing oil or gas <\/strong><strong>from Venezuela<\/strong>, which will also take effect on 2 April, the US President said on his social media platform <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/114217914259825110\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Truth<\/a>. The US, however, remains an importer of Venezuelan oil, accounting for about 4.3% of its imported crude in January. China, Spain, Russia, India, Singapore, and Veitnam are some of the top candidates to be hit with this tariff. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>US tariffs on <\/strong><strong>auto imports are also incoming: <\/strong>US President Donald Trump said auto tariffs will land \u201cin the next few days,\u201d with additional duties on pharma, lumber, and semiconductors set to follow \u201cdown the road.\u201d Speaking to reporters at the White House yesterday, Trump said many of these levies would take effect on 2 April, which he framed as a \u201cLiberation Day\u201d for the US economy. However, some duties would be phased in later, and some allies could receive exemptions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Markets reax:<\/strong> Wall Street closed higher on Monday on hopes that Trump\u2019s long-threatened tariff package may end up being narrower in scope than initially feared. The S&P 500 gained nearly 1.8%, hitting a two-week high. The FSRUs will carry and convert LNG to gas and will be installed near the Khor al-Zubair Gulf port in Basra. Iraq has also launched a tender for a fixed regasification platform in the Grand Faw port in the south. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>In context: <\/strong>Iraq has been working to limit its energy imports \u2014 electricity and natural gas \u2014 from Iran in response to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/46fb87fa-67a6-4b77-a875-e6ac654f7bd1\/today:-uae%25e2%2580%2599s-non-oil-trade-hit-aed-3-tn-landmark-in-2024-%2B-us-targets-iran-exports\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">US pressure<\/a> and ramping up efforts to prep its natural gas supply chain infrastructure to accommodate for increased inflows from alternative sources, such as Oman and Qatar. This includes plans for installing <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/fc5a81b7-ea87-49cd-8516-970f4611bec8\/today:-msc-subsidiary-snaps-49%2525-stake-in-marsa-maroc%25e2%2580%2599s-eastern-container-terminal-%2B-qatar-to-support-libyan-airport-development\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">two offshore LNG facilities<\/a>, with one facility planned to receive imported LNG to run the power stations in southern Iraq near the Grand Faw Port and the other slated for Khor Al-Zubair port near the oil hub in Basra.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a>#2- Egypt<\/strong> <strong>makes headway on<\/strong> <strong>West Delta Deep Marine project:<\/strong> UK-based oil and gas giant Shell \u2014 in collaboration with its partners \u2014 is working to accelerate gas production from the 11th phase of the West Delta Deep Marine field in a bid to boost the nation\u2019s natural gas output, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/pfbid02hL3jfFMGVxtsGbSVJu7ebYErvSdw9bv61kDJMFrjC5AbxVMAr6S7Mc7CepvyWgvBl\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. The new phase will include drilling three wells with a projected production of 150 mn cubic feet per day (cf\/d). Initial production from this phase is scheduled to start in June. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The company also wrapped its 10th phase in early January, <\/strong>which included three wells with 160 mn cf\/d production capacity, according to the statement. The new wells added in 2025 are set to increase the field\u2019s production rates to 320 mn cf\/d this year, up from 222 mn cf\/d in 2024, chairman of Rashid Petroleum Company Mohamed Samir said. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ICYMI:<\/strong> Shell <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/162664a9-81b7-48c6-bca9-6e5a4617ca50\/%253cmark%253eshell%253c%2Fmark%253e-plans-to-invest-usd-300-mn-into-its-west-delta-deep-marine-concession\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">is investing some USD 300 mn<\/a> alongside Petronas in its ongoing drilling operations in the West Delta Deep Marine concession as part of its 11th phase. Shell started production from one well in the West Delta Deep Marine <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e4f0ab22-1b09-45e1-840b-ef77e13a8fa1\/drilling-operations-in-zohr-to-resume-in-december\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">in October<\/a>, producing 30-40 mn cf\/d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong>Egypt is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/9ee055f8-4ecf-4f40-a2e4-4ce8a938d8c8\/today:-gulfnav-approves-valuation-for-brooge-assets-acquisition-%2B-egypt%25e2%2580%2599s-adabiya-port-plans\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">working to become a net LNG exporter once again<\/a>, with a plan to become a hub for the regasification and export of Cypriot gas. The country also hopes that new natural gas discoveries and wells could help it reverse its dependence on imported gas by next year. Egypt reportedly needs around 6.2 bn cubic feet per day (bcf\/d), but domestic production only contributes 4.4 bcf\/d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3-<\/strong> <strong>The Gulf Mercantile Exchange (GME) has launched trading on its Alternativ<\/strong><strong>e <\/strong><strong>Crude Ecosystem (ACE)<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wam.ae\/en\/article\/bits79u-gme-marks-first-trade-alternative-crude-ecosystem\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Wam<\/a> reports. The first sale saw 500 contracts of Oman Crude Oil sold for May 2025 delivery.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What\u2019s ACE? <\/strong>The bilateral trading platform allows participants to trade multiple crude grades as differentials against the GME Oman sour crude futures benchmark. These include Oman, Al Shaheen, Basrah Medium, Basrah Heavy, Dubai, Murban, and Upper Zakum. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ICYMI- <\/strong>GME logged a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/b4c1067f-c3f8-4ce3-960d-63408c83b590\/this-morning:-adia-to-invest-in-malaysia%25e2%2580%2599s-yinson-production-offshore%3F-%2B-sharjah-to-roll-out-rental-index\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">12% increase<\/a> in 2024 trading volume with 1.3 mn contracts. Meanwhile, front-month contract volume grew 20% y-o-y during the year to a record 959.6k. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">MARKET WATCH- <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#1-<\/strong><strong> Oil prices saw very limited movement this morning amid uncertainty over the <\/strong><strong>possible impact of Trump\u2019s floated secondary tariffs on importers of Venezuelan oil,<\/strong> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/oil-prices-little-changed-investors-weigh-impact-trump-tariffs-2025-03-25\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reports. Brent crude futures gained USD 0.01 to USD 73.01 a barrel, while the US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) decreased by USD 0.01 to USD 69.10 a barrel by 04.24 GMT.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#2- Baltic index on an upward trajectory:<\/strong> The Baltic Exchange\u2019s dry bulk sea freight index \u2014 which tracks rates for the capesize, panamax, and supramax vessel segments \u2014 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/tradingeconomics.com\/commodity\/baltic\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">grew 0.6%<\/a> 1,652 points on Monday. The capesize was up 0.5% to 2,690 points, while the panamax index gained 1% to reach 1,389. Only the smaller supramax index rose to 1,013 points \u2014 almost a four-month high.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">DATA POINT- <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Oman\u2019s <\/strong><strong>seaports recorded OMR 16.5 bn in trade in FY 2024<\/strong>, accounting for 77% of the country\u2019s total foreign trade, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mtcit.gov.om\/ITAPortal\/MediaCenter\/NewsDetail.aspx?NID=171378\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. Omani ports saw their general, bulk, and liquid cargo volumes rise 15% y-o-y to 137 mn tons, while the number of docked ships at ports saw a 1.5% y-o-y jump to 12k vessels. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The breakdown:<\/strong> Sohar Port saw a 72% boost in the volume of goods processed, handling around 942k TEUs. Salalah Port saw a 10% jump across the general, liquid, and bulk categories, with some 3.3 mn TEUs handled. rel=\"noopener\">railway manufacturing complex<\/a> project in Alexandria\u2019s Borg El Arab\u2019s logistics and industrial zone, according to a cabinet <a target=\"_blank\" The approval also grants the project the \u2018private freezone\u2019 designation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This is the first time we hear about the project\u2019s private freezone designation, <\/strong>which is granted to strategic projects on a case-by-case basis, usually when the project\u2019s economic feasibility is dependent on establishing it in a specific location outside public freezones, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gafi.gov.eg\/Arabic\/StartaBusiness\/InvestmentZones\/SiteAssets\/Pages\/FreeZones\/Ar_Priv_all_final.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">publication<\/a> by the General Authority for Freezones and Investments. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>About private freezones: <\/strong>Current regulations require private freezone projects to export at least 80% of the production, with the possibility of exceptions for projects with \u201cspecial strategic importance.\u201d They also require that local components account for 30% of the production. Earlier in October, it was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alborsaanews.com\/2024\/10\/27\/1837754\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that Egypt is preparing amendments to the regulation that would raise the exports and local components requirements to 100% and 70%, respectively. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What we know so far about the project: <\/strong>The under-construction project will initially include building two factories over an area of 40k feddans (c. 41.5k acres) to manufacture components for Cairo Metro Line 6 and cables. Production is planned to begin in 1Q 2027. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ICYMI- <\/strong>Rowad Modern Engineering was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/afc5a48a-22d4-4e84-a9eb-d79c4db01d03\/updates-on-investments,-trade,-digitalization,-ports,-and-aviation-from-egypt,-bahrain,-and-uae\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">awarded the contract<\/a> to construct one of the factories planned for the railway manufacturing complex in Egypt last week. Rowad already kicked off construction work of the plant, with plans to wrap it up in no longer than two years. The tender for the main manufacturing factory has not been issued by Alstom yet, an insider source with knowledge of the matter told us then.
