Shall we?<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">WATCH THIS SPACE-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#1- <\/strong><strong>I<\/strong><strong>ran in the lion\u2019s den once again:<\/strong> The US is ramping up economic pressure on Iran, ordering \u201cmaximum pressure\u201d on the country in a bid to curtail its alleged pursuit of a nuclear weapon, including by cutting its oil exports to \u201czero,\u201d according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/02\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-restores-maximum-pressure-on-iran\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> from Washington. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>It <\/strong><strong>is not over yet: <\/strong>More sanctions and enforcement mechanisms for existing ones could soon be enacted on Iran and Iran-linked businesses. You could also see some sanctions waivers, including humanitarian ones, rescinded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Adding Arab states to the mix? <\/strong>Trump has warned Iran about skirting sanctions through the \u201cIraqi financial system\u201d and that \u201cGulf countries are not used as sanctions evasion transshipment points,\u201d according to a separate <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/02\/national-security-presidential-memorandum-nspm-2\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What does it mean for Iraq? <\/strong>Iraq is one of the countries benefiting from Iran sanctions waivers to allow it to purchase Iranian electricity. The US has granted Iraq this waiver regularly since 2018 on the condition that Iraqi payments are only used for \u201chumanitarian\u201d spending in Iran, Al-Monitor reported back in July. The latest waiver was issued in November and is set to expire in March this year, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us-renews-120-day-waiver-allowing-iraq-pay-iran-electricity-2023-11-14\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported in November. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What does it mean for oil trade and shippers? <\/strong>The US government has warned businesses in the shipping industry and port operators of risking sanctions for violating the US sanctions regime on Iran by moving Iranian oil and other exports. <strong>Expect detailed compliance guidance for businesses soon from the US Treasury Department. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a>#2- Egypt has three new logistic zones in the pipeline:<\/strong> The Egyptian Cabinet passed a draft presidential decree allocating land plots to the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports to set up logistics zones in Qena, Matrouh, and Toshka, according to a cabinet <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/1138729861630766?comment_id=557398477457210\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. No further details were disclosed about the plans. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>AND- Safaga Port expansion gets land plots allocation: <\/strong>The cabinet also approved a draft presidential decree allocating state-owned plots in the Red Sea Governorate to the General Authority for Red Sea Ports to carry out <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/a45d2d01-d748-458c-baa2-358f935fe863\/today:-ad-ports-refinances-usd-2.25-bn-loan-%2B-ksa%25e2%2580%2599s-folk-maritime-plans-a-multi-mn-usd-in-fleet-expansion\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">planned expansions<\/a> to Safaga Port. Economic partnership agreements contributed significantly, with non-oil exports under these partnerships rising by 42% y-o-y to AED 135 bn in 2024, Al Maktoum said. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent;\">This marks a major step toward the UAE\u2019s goal of reaching AED 4 tn in annual foreign trade<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"> by 2031, with 75% of that target already achieved in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Non-oil goods exports were the key drivers of growth<\/strong>, increasing by 27.6% y-o-y to AED 561.2 bn, accounting for 18.8% of total foreign trade last year, state news agency <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wam.ae\/en\/article\/bi1strc-uaes-foreign-trade-hit-all-time-high-aed3-trillion\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Wam<\/a> reports. The UAE\u2019s exports to its top 10 trade partners climbed by 37.1% y-o-y, while exports to other countries rose by 13.4% y-o-y. Major export commodities included gold, jewelry, cigarettes, aluminum, copper wires, printed materials, perfumes, and iron-based products. The re-export sector also grew by 7.3% y-o-y to AED 734.4 bn in 2024. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Non-oil imports reached AED 1.7 tn in 2024, up 14.2% y-o-y from 2023<\/strong>. Imports from the country\u2019s top 10 trade partners grew by 6.7% y-o-y, while imports from other nations increased by 22.3% y-o-y. Key imports included gold, mobile phones, petroleum oils, automobiles, jewelry, diamonds, and computers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The trade figures align with the cabinet\u2019s 2024 projections<\/strong>, which saw foreign trade <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/3c5758f5-c8f7-48ee-aa71-08625f6d25bc\/today:-egyptair-secures-egp-bns-for-fleet-expansion-%2B-a-flurry-of-aviation-ipo-updates\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">exceeding AED 2.8 tn<\/a> in 2024, with non-oil exports set to top AED 540 bn, imports over AED 1.6 tn, and re-exports crossing AED 700 bn. Non-oil foreign trade amounted to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/59ee3d94-fb4c-4c1b-adb1-8eb7eeefe9a8\/today:-mawani-and-rsgt-complete-jeddah-islamic-port-upgrade-%2B-seafarers-can-give-the-red-sea-a-pass\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">AED 3.5 tn<\/a> in 2023, while total foreign trade reached a record <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/uae\/en\/news\/story\/1fa5bb85-821c-4a85-82af-dc898a68591a\/total%253cmark%253e-foreign-trade%253c%2Fmark%253e-reached-a-record-aed-4.45-tn-in-2023\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">AED 4.5 tn<\/a> in the same year. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Economic agreements surged in 2024:<\/strong> The UAE signed economic partnership agreements with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/60bbff97-5be7-49f4-83c0-c73fab955e4b\/uae-inks-15-investment-and-trade-agreements-with-four-countries\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">New Zealand, Malaysia, and Kenya<\/a> last month, as well as <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/4bf83d18-d3d3-43ef-a281-c993ba5ee0de\/uae-inks-trade-agreements-with%253cmark%253e-serbia%253c%2Fmark%253e-and-jordan\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Jordan and Serbia<\/a> in October, and agreed with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/5f08bf3e-3e45-4fc9-89fa-fedad32d4d5a\/the-uae-and%253cmark%253e-india%253c%2Fmark%253e-ink-agreement-to-launch-a-food-trade-route\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">India<\/a> to set up a food corridor during the same month. This includes health and education tech, financial inclusion, climate, and logistics. Agritech is also another sector the company is looking at. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ALSO- <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.disruptechventures.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Disruptech Ventures<\/a><\/strong><strong> has its eyes on logistics startups that have embedded <\/strong><strong>finance elements integrated into them<\/strong>, as well as firms that can leverage AI to optimize their operations regardless of what sector they operate in, the company\u2019s Senior Investment Analyst at Disruptech Ventures Fouad Rakha (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/fouadrakha\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">LinkedIn<\/a>) told EnterpriseAM Logistics. \u201cWe are focused on the startups that are able to leverage AI to create what they already do, even when they don\u2019t necessarily brand themselves as an AI company,\u201d Rakha said.
