target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/7e89d397-ac81-42a9-a5cb-398f83a46c11\/today:-it%25e2%2580%2599s-a-blockbuster-day-for-logistics-forums-%2B-asyad-breaks-ground-on-muscat-airport-freezone\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">seven-week strike<\/a> threw a spanner in the works and caused massive delays, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/aerospace-defense\/boeing-restarts-737-max-production-month-after-strike-ended-sources-say-2024-12-10\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reports in an exclusive this morning, citing sources with knowledge of the matter. The aviation giant has 4,2k orders of the plane to fulfill and deliveries are crucial to saving the debt-burdened company after a series of setbacks including two fatal crashes, the pandemic, safety concerns and strikes made it all but impossible to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/bd168f4c-402c-46f7-ac7f-bde7ece24f52\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">achieve its targets<\/a> of producing 56 airplanes a month.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">WATCH THIS SPACE-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong> <a id=\"wwtt1\"><\/a> #1- Is a third floating storage regasification unit on the horizon for <\/strong><strong>Egypt? <\/strong>Egypt has reportedly chartered a third floating storage regasification unit to process LNG imports to dock at Ain Sokhna by June 2025, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/asharqbusiness.com\/power\/63264\/%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D8%AA%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%A3%D8%AC%D8%B1-%D8%B3%D9%81%D9%8A%D9%86%D8%A9-%D8%AA%D8%BA%D9%88%D9%8A%D8%B2-%D8%AB%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AB%D8%A9\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Asharq Business<\/a> reports, citing a government official with knowledge of the matter. The capesize index shed three points to 1,532 points, while the panamax index rose 12 points to 1,079 points. The smaller supramax index shed fell three points to 971 points.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3- <\/strong><strong>Globa<\/strong><strong>l TEU miles<\/strong><strong> have increased by 25% y-o-y<\/strong> <strong>on the back of the Red Sea crisis<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/splash247.com\/how-the-houthis-fired-liner-earnings-to-extraordinary-highs\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Splash News<\/a> reports, citing a Sea Intelligence report it has reviewed. These include the possibility of a strike on the US East and Gulf coasts starting 15 January, the inauguration of Donald Trump as US president five days later, the early arrival of the Chinese New Year on 29 January, and the commencement of the Gemini Cooperation and Premier Alliance on 1 February.<\/p>\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">PSA-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Hapag-L<\/strong><strong>loyd tacks on surcharge from Egypt to West Africa: <\/strong>Shipping Giant Hapag-Lloyd will be adding an Equipment Imbalance Surcharge (EIS) on all dry equipment from all ports in Egypt to all ports in West Africa, effective 15 December 2024 until further notice, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hapag-lloyd.com\/en\/services-information\/news\/2024\/12\/shipping-from-egypt-to-west---central-africa-.html\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. However, achieving this goal will be challenging and expensive, demanding USD bns in investments for new ships and fuel production. The UN's International Maritime Organization aims to eliminate shipping industry emissions by 2050, but so far, policymakers have offered limited support or clear direction on how companies should reach this target, leaving the market's future uncertain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Container shipping is leading the way:<\/strong> Container shipping companies have ordered twice as many alternative-fuel vessels as petroleum tankers and bulk carriers, with pending orders set at 522 dual-fuel new vessels as of late October. 303 of these ships are designed to run on LNG, 216 will run on methanol, two will use hydrogen, and one would be equipped to use ammonia, according to DNV data cited by Reuters. Almost 65% of container vessel orders in 2024 were intended for dual-fuel engines, a surge from the 4% in 2018.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>CMA is ahead of the game: <\/strong>CMA <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/ab55a287-00f8-4ce5-9e60-0522c0cb8352\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">has 35 dual-fuel ships<\/a> ready to use biofuels and e-fuels in its fleet with another 84 on the order books as of last January. The company plans to have 119 dual-fuel ships in operation by 2028.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The agreements are rolling in:<\/strong> Maersk has inked a long-term bio-methanol offtake agreement with China\u2019s Longi Green Energy Tech <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/917f1b4f-e7cf-47aa-a1db-d65e6ed19793\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">earlier this month<\/a> as it looks to secure methanol for its growing dual-fuel methanol fleet, with full production forecasted by 2030. CMA and UAE\u2019s Masdar inked a strategic supply partnership <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/ab55a287-00f8-4ce5-9e60-0522c0cb8352\/masdar-and%253cmark%253e-cma%253c%2Fmark%253e-ggm-ink-green-fuels-supply-agreement\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">back in January<\/a> to explore the feasibility of striking up a long-term green maritime fuels offtake agreement to supply CMA CGM vessels. CMA is also working with Cosco to procure, supply, and transport green methanol at major ports in China. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Speaking of Cosco: <\/strong>The firm signed an agreement <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/20272b1a-171a-4341-94b4-70c8f50b05ce\/%253cmark%253ecosco%253c%2Fmark%253e-shipping,-fortescue-partner-on-green-fuel-shipping-%2B-trade-updates-from-asia\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">in July<\/a> with Australian green energy firm Fortescue to jointly build a green fuel supply chain to help reduce pollution in the shipping industry. MSC is equipping an undisclosed portion of its new LNG vessels with ammonia-compatible tanks. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Transition fuels could play a part:<\/strong> Despite being a fossil fuel, LNG could cut GHG emissions up to 23% because it burns cleaner than traditional ship fuels. The transition to fuels like LNG could \u201cplay quite a big role until 2035 or 2040,\u201d VP of supply chain research at Rystad Energy Jo Friedmann told Reuters.
