OF BAD NEWS- A c<\/strong><strong>argo<\/strong><strong> ship has sunk off Egypt\u2019s Red Sea coast: <\/strong>A Comoros-flagged cargo ship \u2013 the VSG Glory \u2013 has sunk near the coral reefs of Quseir on Egypt\u2019s Red Sea coast after being stranded for almost ten days, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/cargo-ship-sinking-off-egypts-red-sea-coast-2024-12-02\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported earlier this week. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What happened: <\/strong>The VSG Glory was en route from Yemen to Egypt\u2019s Port Tawfik, when it sustained a 60 cm (23.6 inch) hull breach, causing seawater to flood the vessel\u2019s engine room, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marineinsight.com\/shipping-news\/grounded-cargo-ships-sinks-off-egypts-red-sea-coast-threatening-an-oil-spill\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Marine Insight<\/a> reports. Egyptian authorities tried their best to salvage and stabilize the ship, but efforts were sabotaged by the deteriorating weather which caused the vessel to tilt further. The ship, stranded since 22 November, was carrying 4k metric tons of bran, 70 tons of fuel oil and 50 tons of diesel. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Egypt\u2019s Red Sea governorate and the Egyptian Environment Ministry extracted 250 tons of contaminated water and fuel<\/strong>, but some remains on board, Reuters writes. There is concern the remaining fuel could spill and cause lasting damage to the surrounding coral reefs and ecosystem, sources tell the newswire. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a><\/strong><strong>#2- Pakistan has postponed its purchase of LNG from Qatar to 2026 instead of receiving <\/strong><strong>cargoes in 2025<\/strong>, Pakistani Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/pakistan-defers-lng-contract-with-qatar-year-petroleum-minister-says-2024-12-04\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a>. The country currently has a surplus of LNG, and has chosen to defer the order instead of cancelling to avoid facing financial penalties<strong>. <\/strong>Malik told Reuters <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/pakistan-unlikely-buy-spot-lng-summer-despite-simmering-heat-2024-06-12\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">back in June<\/a> that Pakistan is unlikely to buy LNG cargoes until at least the beginning of winter due to oversupply and high prices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Lots of deferrals: <\/strong>The South Asian nation has deferred five LNG cargoes from Qatar, and is negotiating to defer five more from other markets, according to the newswire. Pakistan\u2019s government said in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/asia-pacific\/pakistan-slash-winter-power-tariffs-spur-demand-cut-gas-use-2024-11-09\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">November<\/a> that it would slash its electricity tariffs over the winter to boost consumption and cut the use of natural gas for heating. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Is this because of talks with Russia? <\/strong>Pakistan has also restarted talks with Russia to solve obstacles such as \u201cins., reins., transaction structure, shipping lines and ship cargo size, Malik said, but no agreement has been reached.
