style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt1\"><\/a><strong>#1- AD Ports + Turkey <\/strong><strong>push<\/strong><strong> to finalize Izmir Port acquisition:<\/strong> AD Ports is continuing negotiations with Turkey to establish a joint venture for the operation of Izmir Port after approximately eight months of delay, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/deals\/turkey-abu-dhabi-joint-venture-talks-izmir-port-continue-sources-say-2024-08-12\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reports, citing people familiar with the matter. AD Ports has been in talks to acquire a stake in the key Turkish port of Izmir in a USD 500 mn transaction <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/1a6e2873-76a8-46f3-a106-4a6910da9d74\/ad-ports-group-is-reportedly-in-talks-to-acquire-a-stake-in-turkey%25e2%2580%2599s-izmir-port\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">since December<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What was causing the delays? <\/strong>Turkey was exploring other buyers, but has decided to advance with AD Ports, one of the sources says. Conditions on capacity and competition delayed the final agreement, the source added. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What we know:<\/strong> The agreement will see AD Ports shell out investments in an entity established by Turkey\u2019s sovereign wealth fund, the Turkish Wealth Fund (TWF), to operate the facility. Details of the arrangement are yet to be finalized.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a><strong>#2- <\/strong><strong>Iran is looking to establish a special mineral economic zone with Afghanistan<\/strong>, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/MoICAfghanistan\/status\/1822288476663873637\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. Iran is also discussing cooperation with Afghanistan in mineral exploration, investment in road and rail construction, and the establishment of an iron ore processing plant. \u201cIran can increase its transit role in the import and export of Afghanistan from the current 50%,\u201d <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tehrantimes.com\/news\/502183\/Iran-Afghanistan-trade-should-move-towards-newer-models-of-cooperation\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Tehran Times<\/a> reported last week, citing statements by Iran's commercial attach\u00e9 in Afghanistan Hossein Roustaei. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why is this important? <\/strong>Afghanistan fulfills over 80% of its market needs through imports with Iranian exports constituting 25% of the demand, Roustaei said during a Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture meeting on the economic viability of the Afghan market. Iran exported over USD 724 mn worth of goods to Afghanistan in the first four months of the current calendar year (March 20-July 21) with a 28% increase y-o-y, he added. Afghanistan's import priorities include food, agriculture, fuel, medicine, medical equipment, and construction equipment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3- <\/strong><strong>The first transformer at the Egyptian-Saudi 500 kV interconnection station in Egypt\u2019s <\/strong><strong>Badr City was installed on Saturday<\/strong>, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/pfbid02NUHsToEb6MzZ2WdDSGydJrq8yi9LgUnYi6UuzU2vaqxUsTNio8nRhHTNxKxqk3sFl\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> released. The interconnection aims to enhance the electrical grid\u2019s connectivity with neighboring networks and allow countries to trade their renewable energy. The transformer built in Badr City is the first of its kind in the Middle East in both size and type of technology employed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The project is coming a long way:<\/strong> The infrastructure for the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/climate\/en\/news\/story\/81d13a3c-e79f-4ff1-93a2-19049c1eb8c7\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">3 GW Egypt-Saudi interconnection project<\/a> was around 40-50% complete in February. The project \u2014 which consists of three stations connected via 1.35 km of overhead lines and 22 km of submarine cables in the Gulf of Aqaba \u2014 is expected to come fully online in 2026.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#4-<\/strong> <strong>TCI Sanmar eyes more expansions in Egypt: <\/strong>Indian chemical firm TCI Sanmar is looking to pour AED 300 mn into Egyptian projects, including the expansion of the company\u2019s factories in Port Said for AED 150 mn as well as establishing <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/7c68370e-8232-47ca-afe6-78837840b378\/%253cmark%253etci%253c%2Fmark%253e-sanmar-to-invest-at-least-usd-160-mn-in-new-loading-terminal-in-egypt\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">a new terminal<\/a> for loading ethylene at West Said Port for another AED 150 mn, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sis.gov.eg\/Story\/194183\/Wazir-State--providing-all--support-to-int%27l-companies-to-expand-in-Egypt?lang=en-us\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>. The probe follows a complaint by the European Steel Association calling for the imposition of anti-dumping duties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Who is involved? <\/strong>Ezz Steel, Egypt's sole exporter of hot-rolled flat steel to the EU, received a notice from the Commission last week, it said in a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.londonstockexchange.com\/news-article\/AEZD\/initiation-of-anti-dumping-investigation\/16615059\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> to the London Stock Exchange. The investment ticket does not include development costs for a warehouse to store LNG shipments.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What we know:<\/strong> The unit will be built on land adjacent to the Damietta LNG facility \u2014 operated by a joint venture between Eni and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) \u2014 to receive LNG shipments and regasify them, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.asharqbusiness.com\/companies\/50937\/%D9%85%D8%B5%D8%B1-%D8%AA%D8%AA%D9%81%D9%82-%D9%85%D8%B9-%D8%A5%D9%8A%D9%86%D9%8A-%D8%B9%D9%84%D9%89-%D8%AA%D8%B4%D9%8A%D9%8A%D8%AF-%D9%88%D8%AD%D8%AF%D8%A9-%D8%AA%D8%BA%D9%88%D9%8A%D8%B2-%D8%AB%D8%A7%D8%A8%D8%AA%D8%A9-%D9%81%D9%8A-%D8%AF%D9%85%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%B7\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Asharq Business<\/a> reports. The investment ticket does not include development costs for a warehouse to store LNG shipments. The main objective is to bridge the gap between higher-than-expected local consumption, which was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8883e2e1-8006-4fd6-be3c-58d871338ead\/madbouly-addresses-power-cuts,-renewables-goals,-meds-crisis\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">up 12% y-o-y in July<\/a>, and dwindling domestic gas production. Egypt is also negotiating the development of a floating regasification unit with Eni.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong style=\"background-color: transparent;\">What's next?<\/strong><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\"> Egypt\u2019s EGAS has contracted an international consultancy firm to conduct studies to establish a regasification unit and an LNG warehouse in the Damietta liquefaction plant, Asharq reports. The planned storage capacity is set at some 160k cubic meters of LNG.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Remember: <\/strong>Egypt currently has access to two regasification units, one in Jordan\u2019s terminal in Aqaba, which Egypt was given the right to in an agreement inked last year, and a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/291997ca-453f-41e9-a363-a5ecb331befb\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">newly-leased<\/a> Norwegian floating storage and regasification unit currently docked in Ain Sokhna. The state contracted the unit after a fall in domestic production <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/317bf16c-ec16-489f-ac56-05ad40a04693\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">pushed<\/a> the country from being a net exporter to a net importer of LNG.
