SAR received bids for the contract in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.railjournal.com\/regions\/middle-east\/saudi-landbridge-tendering-to-begin-soon\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">October 2022<\/a>, with the consortium beating out rival proposals from Systra and a consortium of Parsons and Egis, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.railjournal.com\/regions\/middle-east\/consortium-selected-for-saudi-landbridge-project-management-contract\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">the International Railway Journal (IRJ)<\/a> reported last week. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Who else is involved? <\/strong>The Saudi China Landbridge consortium \u2014 led by SAR, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), and Al Ayuni as a local partner \u2014 had signed a MoU to implement the project in October 2018. Thales, WSP, Aldhabaan & Partners, the local partner of British law firm Eversheds & Sutherland, ALG Infrastructure, and Calx Consultancy are also involved. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>About the project: <\/strong>Construction work on the project will include a mixture of upgrades and new line construction which are expected to take seven years to complete, according to IRJ. <strong>Upon completion, the new railway will consist of six lines:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work on the <strong>first line<\/strong> will involve <strong>upgrading <\/strong>and <strong>adding a 10km extension<\/strong> to the <strong>Jubail Industrial city\u2019s internal network<\/strong>; <\/li>\n<li>Work on the <strong>second line<\/strong> will <strong>add a 35km extension<\/strong> to the <strong>Jubail-Dammam railway line<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>third line<\/strong> will involve <strong>revamping <\/strong>and adding an 87km extension tothe Dammam Riyadh railway line;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>fourth line<\/strong>, known as <strong>Riyadh bypass<\/strong>, will include <strong>polishing up an already-existing network in the city <\/strong>\u2014 which connects the northside of the capital to the southside \u2014 and is composed of a 67 km track and a 35 km track; <\/li>\n<li>The<strong> fifth track <\/strong>will link <strong>Riyadh to Jeddah<\/strong> via a 920 km railway line, and Jeddah to King Abdullah Port via 146 km of tracks, in addition to stations in Jamuma, Al Muwayh and in Al Dawadmi;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>172 km sixth line<\/strong> will <strong>link King Abdullah Port <\/strong>to <strong>Yanbu Industrial city<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The project also includes the development of seven logistics centers: <\/strong>Jubail Industrial City Logistics Centre, Damman Logistics Dry Port, a relocated Riyadh Dry Port, King Khalid Airport Logistics Centre in Riyadh, Jeddah Logistics Dry Port, King Abdullah Port Logistics Centre and Yanbu Industrial City Logistics Centre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The project has been in the works for decades:<\/strong> Plans to develop the Saudi Landbridge project were originally announced in 2004 but were suspended in 2010.
