Leading our news well this morning is US infrastructure investor Stonepeak launching a Gulf-focused renewables platform to work on utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage projects. <\/p>\n

HAPPENING TODAY-<\/p>\n

<\/a> The two-day retail subscription window for Marketing Home Group\u2019s Tadawul IPO begins <\/strong>today<\/strong>, allowing individual investors to subscribe to a minimum of 10 shares and a maximum of 250k each until tomorrow. The final allocation of shares is slated for Sunday, 24 August.<\/p>\n

REFRESHER-<\/strong> The company is floating a 30% stake<\/a> (4.8 mn shares) in a secondary sale. The IPO was priced at SAR 85 per share \u2014 the top of its marketed range \u2014 after the institutional offering was nearly 10x oversubscribed. The offering is set to generate SAR 408 mn in total proceeds, giving the company an implied market cap of SAR 1.36 bn at listing, according to our math.<\/p>\n

The Jazan Arts Club\u2019s digital art exhibit Saudi Summer kicks off today at <\/strong>the Cultural<\/strong> House in Jazan<\/strong>, state news agency SPA<\/a> reported on Sunday. The three-day event will feature digital pavilions, workshops, and training courses to showcase digital artworks by Saudis and residents.<\/p>\n

\n

WEATHER-<\/strong> Clouds are still gathering over the Kingdom, with moderate to heavy rain expected over Makkah, Madinah, Jazan, Asir, Al Baha, and Najran until the middle of next week, the National Center for Meteorology said on X<\/a>. Meanwhile, Riyadh might see medium to light showers, with a high of 43\u00b0C and a low of 30\u00b0C today, and Jeddah\u2019s mercury will go as high as 38\u00b0C and as low as 30\u00b0C. Makkah will see a 40\u00b0C high and 31\u00b0C low, while Madinah will see a 44\u00b0C high and 32\u00b0C low.<\/p>\n

Natural rain is not enough:<\/strong> The Kingdom\u2019s Regional Cloud Seeding Program is working on rain-enhancement operations in Riyadh, Hail, and Qassim as part of a plan to expand to six regions, including Makkah, Al Baha, and Asir, with eventual nationwide coverage. Cloud seeding has already created its first summer rain in Riyadh over the Rumah area earlier this month<\/a>. The program aims to boost rainfall by up to 20%<\/a>, provide an alternative water source, expand green areas, and combat desertification<\/p>\n

PSAs- <\/p>\n

#1- Tuwaiq <\/strong>Academy opened applications for over 200 <\/strong>camps and programs<\/a><\/strong> in 10<\/strong> different tech fields for 4Q<\/strong>, it said on X<\/a> yesterday. The initiative, which will be held in person in Riyadh or virtually, spans different tech fields, including programming and cybersecurity, data science and AI, cloud computing, UX\/UI and virtual worlds, mechatronics engineering, game development, and drones. The initiative \u2014 aimed at building local talent \u2014 is in partnership with major global companies like Meta, Google, Nvidia, Amazon, and Huawei, CEO Abdulaziz Al Hammadi said.<\/p>\n

<\/a> #2- It\u2019s the last day for Saudis to apply to the <\/strong>three-day <\/strong>AI Agents Development Program<\/a><\/strong> Sdaia<\/strong> Academy launched in<\/strong> partnership with US AI firm Groq<\/strong> to train Saudis on developing AI applications, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (Sdaia) said on X<\/a>. The program, which kicks off on 7 September, aims at building local talent, promoting advanced technology, accelerating AI adoption, and fostering innovation.<\/p>\n

WATCH THIS SPACE-<\/p>\n

The Kingdom plans to launch a strategic partnership with Mauritania in mining, fisheries,<\/strong> agriculture, and clean energy<\/strong> to tap into the West African nation\u2019s vast resources, Chairman and CEO of Global Business Consulting Office Fawaz Alamy told Asharq Business on Sunday (watch, runtime: 8:23<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The two countries plan to establish Takamul, a joint venture between <\/strong>Saudi Iron and Steel<\/a><\/strong>Company<\/a><\/strong> (Hadeed) and Mauritania\u2019s state-owned mining company<\/strong>, to develop an iron ore mine with an annual output of 12-14 mn tons, Mauritania\u2019s Ambassador to the Kingdom Mokhtar Ould Dahi told Asharq Al Awsat<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n

The Kingdom has already funneled major funding into Mauritania, investing USD 800 mn <\/strong>in recent years<\/strong>, Alamy said. Saudi funding includes USD 340 mn in active funding from the Saudi Fund for Development and another USD 315 mn from the Islamic Development Bank, Ould Dahi said.<\/p>\n

Saudi Pr<\/strong>inting and Packaging Company (SPPC) is implementing a five-pillar <\/strong>strategy to<\/strong> improve its operations<\/strong>, it said in a Tadawul disclosure (pdf)<\/a> yesterday. The strategy\u2019s five pillars include increasing the profitability of its packaging products, divesting from low-priority sectors and assets, expanding its footprint in high-growth GCC markets, completing its debt restructuring program, and overhauling its organizational structure for more efficiency. <\/p>\n

ICYMI-<\/strong> Earlier this week<\/a>, SPPC sealed a SAR 75 mn financing agreement with major shareholder Saudi Research and Media Group to finance its working capital needs. Meanwhile, the company\u2019s board recommended a capital reduction in May<\/a> to absorb accumulated losses to below 50%. This follows the company\u2019s request last December<\/a> to the Capital Market Authority to convert SAR 73.7 mn in debts owed to Alinma Bank into capital \u2014 which is still under review by the regulator.<\/p>\n

DATA POINTS-<\/p>\n

The Kingdom\u2019s foreign reserve assets fell 3% m-o-m to SAR 1.66 tn in July<\/strong>, Argaam<\/a> reported yesterday, citing data from the Saudi Central Bank. Foreign currency reserves \u2014 which account for about 94% of total assets \u2014 slipped 2% y-o-y to SAR 1.57 tn in July.<\/p>\n

Total written i<\/strong>ns. premiums rose 14.7% y-o-y to SAR 26 bn in 1Q 2025<\/strong>, compared to SAR 22.7 bn, Al Watan<\/a> reported yesterday. Meanwhile, Saudi travel ins. is expected to see its value widen from SAR 3.8 bn in 2024 to SAR 9.3 bn by 2030, Al Watan<\/a> reported separately, citing data from Travel And Tour World.<\/p>\n

SPORTS-<\/p>\n

<\/a> The Saudi Super Cup kicks off today in Hong Kong and wraps up next Saturday, 23<\/strong> August, with four teams battling for the title<\/strong> \u2014 Al Ittihad, Al Qadisiyah, Al Nassr, and Al Ahli \u2014 the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (Saff) said in a presser<\/a> yesterday.<\/p>\n

The match schedule:<\/strong> Al Nassr will face Al Ittihad today at 3pm, while Al Qadisiyah and Al Ahli will go head to head tomorrow at 3pm. The teams that come out on top are set to clash on Saturday at Hong King Stadium.<\/p>\n

AlSO-<\/strong> Saff and SMC inked an agreement with Leap East as the official partner of the Super Cup, the Cup said on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

ICYMI-<\/strong> Al Hilal was fined SAR 500k earlier this month<\/a> and banned from the 2026-2027 Saudi Super Cup after pulling out of this year\u2019s tournament a month earlier<\/a> due to scheduling conflicts following its participation in the Fifa Club World Cup, where playing in the Super Cup would violate mandatory 28-day player leave regulations. Al Hilal was set to Al Qadisiyah in the semis but was replaced by Al Ahli.<\/p>\n

Karmine Corp took home the Rocket league trophy at the 2025 Esports World Cup after<\/strong> defeating Geekay Esports 4-1 in the grand final, earning USD 400k<\/strong>, according to a press release<\/a> published yesterday. It was their second major victory of the year, earning them 1k Club Championship points and moving them into joint-eleventh, while Team Falcons secured third place over Team Vitality. <\/p>\n

Former Al Hilal player Saud Abdulhamid became the first Saudi player to play in France\u2019s Ligue<\/strong> 1<\/strong>, after playing as a second-half substitute in RC Lens\u2019 1-0 loss to Lyon in the opening round last Thursday, according to Saudi Gazette<\/a>. RC Lens reached an agreement with Serie A side AS Roma to secure Abdulhamid on loan until June 2026, with a window to buy the player, sports journalist Fabrizio Romano posted on X<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n

ICYMI-<\/strong> Last August<\/a>, Abdulhamid joined Roma in a landmark move, becoming the first Saudi footballer to secure a permanent transfer to a top European league. Abdulhamid joined the Yellow and Reds from Hilal for a fee of EUR 2.5 mn, potentially rising to EUR 3 mn with bonuses.<\/p>\n

THE BIG STORY ABROAD- <\/p>\n

The international press is focused on exactly two stories this morning:<\/strong> SoftBank investing in Intel, and US President Donald Trump\u2019s meeting with Ukraine\u2019s Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington yesterday. <\/p>\n

Intel is getting a USD 2 bn investment from SoftBank<\/strong>, which is buying a c.2% stake in Intel \u2014 some 87 mn shares \u2014 at USD 23 apiece, Intel said in a statement<\/a> overnight. The share price is slightly below Intel\u2019s closing price yesterday of USD 23.66, but is widely seen as a \u201clifeline\u201d for the US chipmaker, which reported net losses last year for the first time in nearly four decades. SoftBank\u2019s investment, which makes it Intel\u2019s fifth-largest shareholder, also comes as the US government is reportedly in talks to snap up a 10% stake in Intel. <\/p>\n

The investment is a shot in the arm in Intel\u2019s (costly) drive to manufacture chips for <\/strong>external customers<\/strong>, although Intel has yet to lock down any significant customers for this line of business. \u201cThis strategic investment reflects our belief that advanced semiconductor manufacturing and supply will further expand in the United States, with Intel playing a critical role,\u201d SoftBank said in a statement<\/a>. The story is front-page news in the Financial Times<\/a>, the Wall Street Journal<\/a>, CNBC<\/a>, Bloomberg<\/a>, and Reuters<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Trump is now arranging a meeting between Ukraine\u2019s Zelensky and Russia\u2019s <\/strong>Vladimir Putin<\/strong> after Trump and Zelensky agreed that the US would help ensure Ukraine\u2019s security in any peace agreement with Russia. Zelensky and Putin could meet in Hungary in the next two weeks, according to unconfirmed reports, with that meeting expected to be followed by a trilateral meeting with Trump to reach a final agreement to end the war between Kyiv and Moscow.
