WEATHER<\/strong>- <\/strong>Riyadh\u2019s mercury will peak at 41\u00b0C before dropping to a low of 28\u00b0C, and Jeddah wil see a high of 37\u00b0C and a low of 31\u00b0C.<\/p>\n

HAPPENING THIS WEEK-<\/p>\n

#1- <\/strong>The<\/strong> Saudi Informatics team is taking part in the <\/strong>International Olympiad in Informatics<\/a><\/strong> (IOI)<\/strong> in <\/strong>Alexandria, Egypt<\/strong>, which kicked off yesterday and runs through to Sunday, 8 September, SPA reports<\/a>. IOI is an annual programming competition for secondary school students.<\/p>\n

#2- The two-day <\/strong>Data Center Xpo summit<\/a><\/strong> will kick off in Riyadh tomorrow.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

PSAs- <\/p>\n

<\/a> #1- The Real Estate Registry is accepting registration applications <\/strong>for 62.4k properties<\/strong> at<\/strong> 11 <\/strong>Riyadh neighborhoods<\/strong>, according to state news agency SPA<\/a>. Registrations kicked off yesterday and will run until 5 December. Applications can be submitted via the registry\u2019s online portal<\/a>, which provides a set of services including deed transfers. Registration requires a valid title deed.<\/p>\n

<\/a> #2- <\/strong>King Faisal Prize Nominations for 2026 are now open:<\/strong> The King Faisal Prize is accepting nominations for its 2026 awards until 31 March, 2025, the charity foundation said in a post on X<\/a>. The awards cover five key areas \u2014 service to Islam, Islamic studies, Arabic language and literature, medicine and science. Applications can be submitted through the foundation\u2019s online portal<\/a>. <\/p>\n

WATCH THIS SPACE-<\/p>\n

Subscriptions for the September round of the government\u2019s retail <\/strong>sukuk<\/a><\/strong>program Sah<\/a><\/strong> kicked off yesterday<\/strong> and will close at 3pm tomorrow, Mubasher<\/a> reports. The instruments carry a fixed yield of 5.31%. The minimum subscription is set at SAR 1k, with a SAR 200k subscription ceiling per investor. <\/p>\n

The receiving entities:<\/strong> Al Rajhi Bank, Al Jazeera Capital, SAB Invest, SNB Capital, and Alinma Investment, according to the National Debt Management Center\u2019s website<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Background: <\/strong>The Finance Ministry and NDMC launched the shariah-compliant retail saving instrument earlier this year<\/a> in a bid to diversify the nation\u2019s savings offerings. The program features monthly issuances that carry annual fixed yields varying in value from month to month depending on market conditions. Every issuance matures in 12 months and has no subscription fee.<\/p>\n

DATA POINTS-<\/p>\n

<\/a> Point-of-sale transactions<\/strong> rose 10.2% y-o-y to SAR<\/strong> 54 <\/strong>bn in July<\/strong>, according to the Saudi<\/a>Central Bank\u2019s (Sama) monthly bulletin (pdf)<\/a>. Ecommerce transactions using Mada cards accounted for SAR 16.6 bn, up from SAR 12.9 bn over the same period.<\/p>\n

MARKET WATCH-<\/p>\n

<\/a> Nomu-listed Watani Iron Steel\u2019s transfer to the main market was declined by the Saudi<\/strong> Exchange<\/strong>, citing the company\u2019s failure to meet the necessary listing requirements, according to a statement from Tadawul<\/a>. No further information was disclosed. Watani had submitted its request to the exchange in May<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The requirements in a nutshell:<\/strong> Companies that want to transfer from Nomu to Tadawul\u2019s main market must have been listed on Nomu for a minimum of two calendar years before making the move. Issuers must also take a minimum stake of 30% to market, have a minimum market cap of SAR 300 mn, and have at least 200 public shareholders, according to the conditions set out by the exchange (pdf)<\/a>. The move would also require Watani to start publishing quarterly and annual financial statements post-listing.<\/p>\n

<\/a> Chelsea\u2019s Sterling turns down Saudi offer:<\/strong> Raheem Sterling, Chelsea\u2019s 29-year-old winger, rejected an offer to join an unspecified Saudi club for GBP 650k per week, opting instead to join Arsenal on loan, Sky Sports reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

THE BIG STORY ABROAD- <\/p>\n

The war on Gaza continues to dominate headlines this morning on day 331 of the <\/strong>conflict. <\/strong>Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced increasing pressure from leaders abroad to accept a ceasefire. He\u2019s also facing public pressure at home.<\/p>\n

Crowds of up to 500k took to the streets in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and other Israeli cities<\/strong> to protest Netanyahu\u2019s continued stalling on a ceasefire agreement<\/a>, which protestors claim is impeding the return of the remaining 101 hostages after the bodies of six others were recently recovered. The country\u2019s biggest labor union threw its weight behind protests<\/a> early this morning, calling for a general strike with the apparent blessing of Israeli manufacturers and other companies.<\/p>\n

The protests reflect an increasingly polarized Israeli society, say much of the <\/strong>commentariat<\/strong>, with right-wing politicians threatening to bring down Netanyahu\u2019s political coalition if he accepts a ceasefire agreement. On the far right of the country\u2019s already far right cabinet, Israeli Finance Minister Bazalel Smotrich called on the country\u2019s attorney general to block the planned labor strike, accusing protesters<\/a> of \u201cfulfilling (Hamas chief Yahyeh) Sinwar\u2019s dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

WHILE IN INT\u2019L BUSINESS NEWS- On an otherwise quiet day in the world of business, <\/strong>Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger\u2019s plan to rejuvenate the company\u2019s fortunes<\/strong> is catching the attention<\/a> of the international press. Gelsinger and other top executives are slated to present a plan to the company\u2019s board later this month that will propose breaking up some of Intel\u2019s key businesses in its efforts to start reclaiming some ground between it and competitors like chipmaker Nvidia.<\/p>\n

AND OVER IN EUROPE- Germany\u2019s far-right has taken its first state election since World <\/strong>War II<\/strong>, with the once-marginalized far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) cruising to victory in the regional election<\/a> for the state of Thuringia. The party won 32.8% of the vote, leading its main rival \u2014 the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) \u2014 by a margin of over nine percentage points. Next door in Saxony, the CDU is expected to barely edge out the AfD with 31.9% of the vote to AfD\u2019s 30.6%.<\/p>\n
