An Aa1 from Moody\u2019s: <\/strong>Rating agency Moody\u2019s has upgraded Saudi\u2019s local and foreign currency rating to Aa1 from Aa2 on the back of improved government decision-making and institutional reforms, Reuters<\/a> reported, citing a report by Moody\u2019s. It said the upgrade came due to \"increased predictability of policies and decision-making processes affecting non-government issuers given institutional improvements.\u201d<\/p>\n

Key insights<\/strong>: The report said a \u201czero-notch gap\u201d between the foreign currency and local currency ratings was backed by robust forex reserves by Saudi central bank Sama. This signals minimal risks associated with transfers or convertibility.<\/p>\n

Something to watch out for: <\/strong>The rating agency said a \u201cthree-notch gap\u201d between the local currency rating and the A1 sovereign rating<\/a> came due to a heavy reliance on a single revenue source \u2014 read: oil \u2014 for the public and private sector and growing geopolitical risks.<\/p>\n

REMEMBER-<\/strong> Finance Minister Mohamed Al Jadaan said recently<\/a> that the Kingdom could drive faster GDP growth by pumping more oil, but it wouldn\u2019t be \u201ccomprehensive and sustainable growth. \u2026 If we wanted, we could produce 10 mn barrels of oil per day instead of 9.5 mn and achieve a much larger growth in GDP,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
