The National Center for Privatization (NCP) and Matarat Holding <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/national-center-for-privatizaition-ppp_%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%B2%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%88%D8%B7%D9%86%D9%8A%D9%84%D9%84%D8%AA%D8%AE%D8%B5%D9%8A%D8%B5-activity-7409611386361806848-VGn_\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> that several leading global consortia are in the running for the new Taif International Airport development project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Who\u2019s in the running? <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turkey\u2019s <strong>Kalyon \u0130n\u015faat<\/strong> is partnering with <strong>Al Bawani Capital<\/strong> for one of the bids;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mada International Holding<\/strong> joining forces with Turkey\u2019s <strong>TAV Airports<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>A third consortium brings together <strong>Tamasuk <\/strong>and <strong>Bengaluru International Airport<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Vision Invest<\/strong>, <strong>Asyad<\/strong>, and Dublin-based <strong>daa International<\/strong> are putting in a joint bid;<\/li>\n<li>New Delhi-based <strong>GMR <\/strong>qualified as a standalone company.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The new airport <\/strong> \u2014 which will be located 21 km from the existing Taif Airport \u2014 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ncp.gov.sa\/en\/MediaCenter\/News\/Pages\/Taif_International_Airport.aspx\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">will follow<\/a> a Build-Transfer-Operate (BTO) model for a 30-year concession and targets a handling capacity of 2.5 mn passengers by 2030.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The blueprint: <\/strong>The Tibah Consortium (Al Rajhi Holding + TAV Airports) provided the proof of concept that privately run local airports are good for business, after they successfully tripled capacity to 9.4 mn passengers at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport since they took over in 2012. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/ksa\/en\/news\/story\/c1cf9b27-7708-4919-a9c5-007ad751bab9\/the-madinah-model-for-airport-privatization-works-%25e2%2580%2594-and-abha-is-the-next-stop\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/ksa\/en\/news\/story\/c1cf9b27-7708-4919-a9c5-007ad751bab9\/the-madinah-model-for-airport-privatization-works-%25e2%2580%2594-and-abha-is-the-next-stop\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">We\u2019re waiting<\/a> on the Abha International Airport concession to be awarded within three months. The winner will finance and build the infrastructure to take the airport\u2019s capacity from 1.5 mn to 13 mn passengers over three phases. Qassim and Hail airports are also reportedly next in line.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong><a id=\"wwtt2\"><\/a> <\/strong><strong>REAL E<\/strong><strong>STATE \u2014<\/strong> <strong>Riyadh rent freeze is now in force: <\/strong>Landlords will have a 10-day grace period to rectify rent violations once notified by the Real Estate General Authority (Rega), under new regs published in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/uqn.gov.sa\/details?p=28732\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Umm Al Qura<\/a> earlier this week. Refusing to renew contracts and demanding tenants to vacate will also prompt Rega to intervene.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why it matters: <\/strong>Rega is digitizing enforcement, as it now has the mandate to manually overwrite the lease agreement within the Ejar platform to reflect the fair price, or renew contracts in case landlords hold out.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>BACKGROUND-<\/strong> The five-year rent freeze in the capital \u2014 introduced earlier this year \u2014 is a bid to control spiraling inflation in rent prices.
