We\u2019re now being told to dial-back our ambitions. This comes as oil production in the US is surging \u2014 and after European countries turned on coal-fired power plants when Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine upended the continent\u2019s energy markets. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Cry \u201cHavoc,\u201d and let slip the insults of Europeans:<\/strong> Saudi is lobbying the UAE to curb the Western push against hydrocarbons \u2014 prompting a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/3f4cd713-9875-4c7d-9986-81453bf33206\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">furious backlash<\/a> from European Union negotiators. Saudi foil Fatih Birol, the head of the International Energy Agency, is demanding delegates reach a consensus on an \u201corderly and just decline in fossil fuels in line with our international climate goals\u201d before the summit wraps up, he told the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/08e08334-f637-4a4f-8374-3f6c24ba7dd2\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why today is so big: <\/strong>It\u2019s the next-to-last (official) day of COP28, and talks are set to kick into high gear. Thales, WSP, Aldhabaan & Partners, the local partner of British law firm Eversheds & Sutherland, ALG Infrastructure, and Calx Consultancy are also involved. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>About the project: <\/strong>Construction work on the project will include a mixture of upgrades and new line construction which are expected to take seven years to complete, according to IRJ. <strong>When it\u2019s done, the new railway will include six lines:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work on the <strong>first line<\/strong> will involve <strong>upgrading <\/strong>and <strong>adding a 10km extension<\/strong> to the <strong>Jubail Industrial city\u2019s internal network<\/strong>; <\/li>\n<li>Work on the <strong>second line<\/strong> will <strong>add a 35km extension<\/strong> to the <strong>Jubail-Dammam railway line<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>third line<\/strong> will involve <strong>revamping <\/strong>and adding an 87km extension tothe <strong>Dammam Riyadh<\/strong> line;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>fourth line<\/strong>, known as <strong>Riyadh bypass<\/strong>, will include <strong>polishing up an already-existing network in the city <\/strong>\u2014 which connects the northside of the capital to the southside \u2014 and is composed of a 67 km track and a separate 35 km spur; <\/li>\n<li>The<strong> fifth track <\/strong>will link <strong>Riyadh to Jeddah<\/strong> via a 920 km railway line, and <strong>Jeddah <\/strong>to <strong>King Abdullah Port<\/strong> via 146 km of track, in addition to stations in Jamuma, Al Muwayh and in Al Dawadmi;<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>172 km sixth line<\/strong> will <strong>link King Abdullah Port <\/strong>to <strong>Yanbu Industrial city<\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The project also includes the development of seven logistics centers: <\/strong>Jubail Industrial City Logistics Centre, Damman Logistics Dry Port, a relocated Riyadh Dry Port, King Khalid Airport Logistics Centre in Riyadh, Jeddah Logistics Dry Port, King Abdullah Port Logistics Centre and Yanbu Industrial City Logistics Centre.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>It has been in the works for decades:<\/strong> Plans to develop the Saudi Landbridge project were originally announced in 2004 but were suspended in 2010.
