For this week\u2019s edition of The Enterprise Guide, we\u2019re listing our favorite warm winter treats and where to find them \u2014 you\u2019re welcome. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\"> ?\ufe0f LAST WEEK IN 3 MINS-<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">PRIVATIZATION WATCH-<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\"> The Madbouly Government is kicking off the year with a plan to add <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/07\/privatization-was-at-the-top-of-cabinets-list-of-new-years-resolutions\/\" rel=\"noopener\">13 new companies<\/a> to its privatization program. The plan also includes a selldown of stakes owned by state-owned banks in government-related companies and taking other companies public.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">ECONOMY-<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">#1- The EGP closed 2025 <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/04\/is-the-egps-speculative-pricing-era-over\/\" rel=\"noopener\">on a high note<\/a>, having appreciated 6.7% for the year against the greenback. Driven by a record-breaking surge in remittances, surging tourism, and improving exports, the EGP is widely projected to strengthen further in 2026 as the nation moves from a \u201cvicious cycle\u201d of devaluation to a \u201cvirtuous cycle\u201d of upgrades.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">#2- Debt service costs are neutralizing a surge in state tax collection, with interest payments <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/04\/interest-payments-devour-gains-as-budget-deficit-widens-to-3-6-of-gdp\/\" rel=\"noopener\">jumping 45.2% y-o-y to EGP 1.06 tn in the first five months of FY 2025-26<\/a>. These payments accounted for the lion\u2019s share of public spending between July and November, effectively consuming over 96% of the state\u2019s total budget revenues during the period.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">#3- The Finance Ministry unveiled its 2026\u20132030 medium-term strategy, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/05\/finmin-lays-out-2030-roadmap\/\" rel=\"noopener\">focusing on curbing public debt and encouraging private sector growth<\/a>. The strategy pivots away from emergency fiscal management toward a period of consolidation and \u201cbalanced\u201d growth.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">TAX-<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">The Finance Ministry is weighing a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/07\/manufacturers-could-get-an-extension-of-their-property-tax-break\/\" rel=\"noopener\">one-to-two-year extension<\/a> of the property tax exemption for some 20 manufacturing sectors. The current grace period, where the state foots the EGP 3.3 bn annual tax bill for manufacturers, is set to expire this month;<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">IPO WATCH-<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">Our favourite supermarket chain and food producer Gourmet is getting ready to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/07\/gourmet-files-to-go-public-on-the-egx\/\" rel=\"noopener\">go public<\/a>. The company has submitted a request to the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) to IPO on the EGX.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">ENERGY- <\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">#1- Egypt is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/05\/lng-imports-to-dip-this-month-thanks-to-strong-inventory-improving-domestic-production\/\" rel=\"noopener\">set to reduce<\/a> its contracted LNG shipments for January from commercial suppliers by over 50% \u2014 down to six or seven shipments \u2014 compared to 14 to 16 shipments in January of last year. This move comes amid sufficient strategic reserves and a dip in domestic demand thanks to cooler temperatures this winter.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">#2- Egypt\u2019s bid to position itself as the premier energy hub in the eastern Mediterranean <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/06\/our-east-med-energy-hub-play-gets-another-shot-in-the-arm\/\" rel=\"noopener\">got another boost<\/a> earlier this week on the Levant side of the equation as the Oil Ministry signed two MoUs to help fuel Syria\u2019s reconstruction with the supply of natural gas and petroleum products.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">NBFI-<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">EGX-listed fintech player Valu plans to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/06\/valu-gets-regulatory-green-light-to-start-operations-in-jordan\/\" rel=\"noopener\">kick off operations in Jordan<\/a> this quarter after lining up final approval from the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ). AROUND THE WORLD IN SEVEN DAYS- <\/p>\n<p> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2025\/5\/2496.jpg?ssl=1\"\/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">It\u2019s been a busy week in the global press, with all eyes on the situation in Venezuela:<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">Trump <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/05\/intl-players-want-in-on-egyptalum\/\" rel=\"noopener\">issued a warning<\/a> to Venezuela\u2019s current de facto leader, Delcy Rodr\u00edguez, of a \u201cbig price\u201d to pay if she does not comply with the conditions the US has set in order for the country to avoid any further attacks by the US. Those include: That the oil industry be \u201crun for the benefit of the people\u201d; an end to drug trafficking and \u201cgang problems\u201d; as well as the removal of Colombian militant groups.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">The chatter about the kidnapping of Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro then <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/06\/remittances-surge-to-usd-3-6-bn-in-november\/\" rel=\"noopener\">shifted<\/a> to the US\u2019 energy agenda and what it stands to gain from the move and from dictating policy in the country. US President Donald Trump clearly thinks there\u2019s plenty to gain \u2014 saying there\u2019s a \u201ctremendous amount of wealth\u201d up for grabs for American oil firms in Venezuela.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">\u2026and grab the US did. Oil tankers moved from the US towards Venezuela to begin loading stranded Venezuelan oil after US President Donald Trump said Venezuela will hand over some 30-50 mn barrels of oil to the US. The sale of the cargoes could be worth around USD 3 bn at current prices.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">AND- The White House is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/07\/orascom-construction-secures-egp-15-bn-ras-el-hekma-contract\/\" rel=\"noopener\">now saying<\/a> that military force is on the table in its bid to \u201cacquire\u201d Greenland. \u201cPresident Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States, and it\u2019s vital to deter our adversaries in the Arctic region,\u201d White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.<\/p>\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;\">IN THE BUSINESS PRESS- Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the company\u2019s new generation of chips, Rubin, are now in full production. The chips can deliver up to five times the AI computing strength of its predecessor, Blackwell. Huang also touted other software the firm is working on, including networking switches that can link several machines as one, and self-driving car software.
