A 3-in-1 arthouse, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bibliothekegypt\/?hl=en\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bibliothek<\/a> is every old soul\u2019s dream; you can peruse their selection of books \u2014 many of which you won\u2019t find at mainstream bookstores in Cairo \u2014 grab a coffee and a croissant while you read, and end your visit with a tour through Bibliothek\u2019s multidisciplinary art gallery. Bibliothek has two branches; one in Arkan Plaza and the other at New Cairo\u2019s U Venues. While both are 3-in-1 arthouses, we found ourselves more in tune with ourselves at the Arkan branch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>WHERE TO FIND BIBLIOTHEK- <\/strong>You can find <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/g.co\/kgs\/JeVDVir\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bibliothek<\/a> on the second floor of the F3 building at Arkan Plaza.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3- The Baron Palace. <\/strong>It may come as a surprise, but the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/egymonuments.gov.eg\/monuments\/baron-empain-palace\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Baron Palace<\/a> isn\u2019t just a wedding venue or Suhoor tent destination \u2014 it\u2019s also a museum. The Hindu-style palace is amongst the very first buildings to exist in Heliopolis, and it still towers over the district. The museum consists of several floors and rooms, each with their own displays detailing the history of the palace, as well as that of Heliopolis, and all the historical events its colossal walls have borne witness to. Its crown and glory? Its panoramic roof.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>WHERE TO FIND THE BARON PALACE - <\/strong>The palace is quite difficult to miss, being situated right in the middle of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/g.co\/kgs\/6QkxAyr\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">El Orouba street<\/a>, Heliopolis. Ticket details are available on the official website, with tickets purchased in-person at the gates. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\"> GAME ON-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Is laying low simply not your thing? <\/strong>We get it, sometimes we crave a little competitive chaos too. Here\u2019s where to go for a last-minute adrenaline rush.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#1 - El Malahy. <\/strong>From mild to wild, you\u2019ll find rides and games to keep you busy for hours. Rollercoasters? Check. Ice-skating? Check. Gilmore Girls-esque town carnival games? You got it. El Malahy also boasts a number of crowd-favorite F&B outlets \u2014 so it\u2019s a sure shot that you\u2019ll have fun, one way or another. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>WHERE TO FIND EL MALAHY- <\/strong>El Malahy is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/g.co\/kgs\/CSFwttz\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">located<\/a> in Katameya on the Cairo-Sokhna road. Tickets are sold at the gate, with prices starting from EGP 525. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#2 - Ground Control. <\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/groundcontroleg\/?hl=en\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">The New Cairo spot<\/a> offers the kind of arcade experience you didn\u2019t know you needed. You\u2019ll find all the classics; think basketball, cup pong, table football, air hockey, and axe-throwing, and there\u2019s also a bowling alley and a few pool tables if you think you can win a game of 8 Ball. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Just show up and show out. <\/strong>Once you get your rechargeable card, you can spend as much or as little as you want. Each game comes at its own cost, and is just one swipe away from delivering joy. Rage is the only constant in this ever-changing world. <\/strong>Oscar-winning British director Danny Boyle takes us back to post-apocalyptic Britain with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt10548174\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">28 Years Later<\/a> \u2014 the third installment in the horror franchise that kicked off in 2002 with 28 Days Later, and returned later in 2007 with 28 Weeks Later. How has the world fared since then? Well, it\u2019s not peaches and roses; we\u2019ll tell you that. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>First things first, what happened 28 years ago? <\/strong>When two English scientists attempted to find a cure for anger control issues after crime rates skyrocketed across the UK, they fumbled the ball\u2026big time. Apes carrying the \u201crage\u201d virus spread it to humans like wildfire, and soon enough, the entire population of the country began displaying symptoms reminiscent of the Ebola virus, with 10 times the rage and the added side-effect of essentially being zombies. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The film takes place on Holy Island off the UK coast years after the outbreak. <\/strong>We meet our cast of survivors, including the young Spike (Alfie Williams), his father Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), and his ill mother Isla (Jodie Comer). When the time comes for Spike to join his father on a zombie hunt on the most dangerous part of the island, they cross paths with quite the suspicious individual, Dr. Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes). Spike sets his suspicions aside in hopes that Kelson might be able to cure his mother. Our young protagonist then decides to bring her to Kelson in secret, but the trip doesn\u2019t go as planned. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>When compared to its predecessors, differences in the nature of the story and the plot <\/strong><strong>become apparent. <\/strong>Screenwriter Alex Garland chose to have the film focus more heavily on character development rather than shock value. Unlike the first two films, the infected have become more in control of their movements over the years. Humans have also gotten smarter when it comes to navigating the ever-looming threat. The entire cast delivered stellar performances \u2014 particularly Fiennes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Boyle took a risk \u2014 and it paid off. <\/strong>The British director is no stranger to experimental filmmaking, having filmed 28 Days Later on digital cameras for an eerie effect that doubles down on the horror. This time around, Boyle opted to film with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/06\/22\/why-danny-boyle-shot-28-years-later-with-iphones\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">iPhones<\/a>, which proved easier to operate, especially considering the nature of the shooting locations. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Some aspects of the plot just don\u2019t make sense, <\/strong>but then again, it\u2019s a horror-fantasy. The filmmakers brought back an incredible franchise, with hints towards yet another upcoming installment picking up where 28 Years Later leaves off. Is 28 Years Later the best in the franchise? Perhaps not, but it stands out for its attempt to dissect the human psyche. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>A friendly warning: <\/strong>28 Years Later isn\u2019t family friendly, to say the least. The film is heavy on the gore, and may not suit certain audiences. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>WHERE TO WATCH- <\/strong>28 Years Later is currently screening at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/egy.voxcinemas.com\/movies\/28-years-later\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Vox Cinemas<\/a> in City Center Almaza, Mall of Egypt, and City Center Alexandria. There, at its edge, the Hawthorn family live a life that the townsfolk deem mysterious \u2014 so what are they actually up to?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why does one sing to the trees? <\/strong>The novel follows Esther and Ysabel Hawthorn \u2014 the family\u2019s youngest daughters in an eons-long line of willow tree caretakers. They tend to and harvest the magical trees, and remain faithful to their family\u2019s ancient pact of singing to the trees to show gratitude for their magic, which in this universe, is grammar \u2014 or perhaps, an interesting take on its definition. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Stranger danger. <\/strong>When Rin, a shape-shifting fae from Arcadia \u2014 the land that lies beyond Thistleford, reveals itself to the sisters, Esther is tempted to leave the world behind and follow the enigmatic fae into Arcadia, shunning a suitor with not-so-good intentions. We will refrain from delving into the details of what role \u201cgrammar\u201d plays in the novella\u2019s plot to avoid spoilers, but we\u2019ll say this: the writing is impeccable \u2014 grammar and all. The River Has Roots is reminiscent of the childhood tales we all grew up reading \u2014 albeit tailored to a more adult audience. The writing is poetic, beautiful, and \u2014 fittingly \u2014 fantastical. From Japanese milk bread and Chinese Bao buns all the way to Thai noodle soup, Yangtze Q\u00fa\u2019s menu flows through all sorts of cuisines, much like its namesake river. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>A cherry-blossom haven. <\/strong>Yangtze Q\u00fa is a \u201cblink and you\u2019ll miss it\u201d kind of spot \u2014 its location at The Nox is a double-edged sword; on one hand, you likely won\u2019t encounter the Asian dining destination unless you\u2019re a self-proclaimed Nox resident, on the other, you\u2019ll be glad to find a spot you can call your own. At first glance, Yangtze Q\u00fa may come across as the sort of restaurant you can\u2019t quite laugh at loud in, but don\u2019t let the dim lighting and the intricate interiors fool you \u2014 the restaurant is all about having fun.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What\u2019s on the menu? We\u2019re glad you asked. <\/strong>Yangtze Q\u00fa\u2019s menu boasts a selection of fresh salads \u2014 think Kani salads and fig salads \u2014 golden spring rolls, fresh tartare, noodle soups, sushi platters, dumplings, and a variety of hearty Pan-Asian main dishes. The star of the show, however? The bao buns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Un-bao-lievably good. <\/strong>Initially, we were set on a sushi platter; our server, however, gave us a passing recommendation that would come to alter the course of our evening. Heeding the call, we opted for the Bao Bun Korean chicken, the Savory Bao Bun Beef, the Shrimp Dynamite Taco, as well as the chicken and shrimp gyoza dumplings. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The bao buns delivered \u2014 and then some.<\/strong> Soft and sweet, the buns perfectly offset the explosion of flavors nestled within. The dumplings proved difficult to ration, with eager hands quickly reaching for them one after another. The soft-shell shrimp tacos also cast a spell of a similar potency, yet we ultimately found ourselves going back to the bao buns.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The verdict: <\/strong>If you find yourself in Yangtze Q\u00fa\u2019s vicinity, do yourself a favor and try out their signature bao buns for yourself.
