Helal steps into the role after serving as vice chairman of Al Ahly Sports Facilities Company, where he led the development of a new stadium and sports city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">AROUND THE WORLD IN SEVEN DAYS- <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2025\/1\/1139.jpg?ssl=1\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"> <strong>The biggest news by far this week was the long-awaited and much-welcome <\/strong><strong>announcement that a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel had been reached.<\/strong> After 15 months of a brutal war and tens of thousands of Palestinians killed by Israel\u2019s brutal assault on the enclave, Israel and Hamas <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/04b28e3c-a633-456b-809b-71e5c0804533\/relief-and-jubilation-as-hamas,-israel-agree-to-a-ceasefire-in-gaza\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">agreed to an Egyptian, Qatari, and US mediated ceasefire<\/a> on Wednesday, with the agreement set to come into effect on Sunday, 19 January. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>According to the plan, the ceasefire will begin with a six-week first phase that will include <\/strong><strong>a gradual Israeli troop withdrawal from central Gaza<\/strong>, allowing displaced Palestinians to return to northern areas. Hamas will release hostages over the course of the phase, with at least three released each week and all living hostages freed before the return of remains. Next, the two parties will move on to the yet-to-be-finalized second and third phases of the agreement, which will focus on securing a permanent truce and full Israeli withdrawal in the second phase and facilitating Gaza\u2019s reconstruction in the third phase.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>However, questions about whether the ceasefire would actually take effect began to crop <\/strong><strong>up Thursday<\/strong>, as Israeli strikes <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/bb23f958-ccef-47d4-9ad9-3564a7f8bc7d\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">continued to pound Gaza<\/a> into the afternoon. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who has long played the role of spoiler in ceasefire negotiations, began the day claiming that Hamas had gone back on several key tenets of the agreement, with the PM threatening to put off convening Israel\u2019s cabinet until Hamas had \u201caccepted all elements of the agreement.\u201d. Netenyahu\u2019s office later announced that the cabinet will meet today to give final approval to the ceasefire and hostages release agreement. Netanyahu remains under pressure from two of his coalition parties to scuttle the agreement, with several lawmakers threatening to resign if the ceasefire goes through.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Elsewhere in the world<\/strong>, South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8abf5077-600f-4ba5-8d9f-18e6a8a60a4b\/turkish-textile-manufacturer-to-invest-usd-50-mn-in-sock-manufacturing\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">arrested<\/a> by security forces after over a month of tense political uncertainty in the nation following Yoon\u2019s brief declaration of martial law in early December. Their simple life becomes complicated after a dispute erupts over their house and their neighbor, Karem (Ahmed Bahaa from Sharmoofers) tries to push them to vacate their home to expand his workshop.
