Demand for foreign currency has begun to decline, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Hassan Abdalla <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/pfbid02QR2DBW1BWDX55d812khnHk3XPcTwt7seYqTxN7Wo4ca8LdL1528FeV3JFZNkiZA7l\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">said yesterday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#4- The FX volumes have kept the strong momentum in the interbank, <\/strong>where local banks bought and sold over USD 4.8 bn from the float day on 6 March to Wednesday, 13 March, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AsharqbEGY\/status\/1767908201175912940\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Asharq Business<\/a> quoted unnamed banking sources as saying.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#5- More banks relaxed their FX spending: <\/strong>Several banks have announced <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/20f7fbf7-2f2f-47d5-9252-91245b5b30db\/fx-inflows,-outflows-inch-closer-to-normalcy\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">higher limits<\/a> on credit card FCY transactions this week, including NBE, Banque Misr, CIB, AAIB, ADIB, and ADCB.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#6- Remittances have increased tenfold since the float:<\/strong> Egypt-bound transfers from Egyptian expats have increased tenfold since the central bank floated the EGP, Banque Misr Chairman Mohamed El Etreby told Extra News <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8ea59e39-6fc2-4391-a708-7c96349d5908\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">on Wednesday<\/a>, without providing further information<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#7-<\/strong><strong>Float spurs influx of foreign currency at the country\u2019s biggest FX bureaus:<\/strong> Customers have sold over EGP 1.05 bn worth of foreign currency at NBE\u2019s foreign exchange bureau <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/alahlyexchange.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Ahly Exchange<\/a>, Banque Misr\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.misrexchange.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Misr Exchange<\/a>, and Banque du Caire\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cairoexchange.com.eg\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Cairo Exchange<\/a> following the float, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alborsaanews.com\/2024\/03\/12\/1774487\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Al Borsa<\/a> reported this week, citing each of the bureaus\u2019 heads. Most of the transactions at the bureaus were USD sales, with SAR and EUR accounting for a smaller portion of the transactions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#8- Investor appetite for local debt is back:<\/strong> Local and foreign investors continued to heavily buy into EGP t-bills auctioned this week. The CBE raised EGP 217.9 bn-worth of one-year t-bills and EGP 46.8 bn-worth of six-month t-bills yesterday \u2014 receiving offers for almost 8x its original ask \u2014 according to the data on the bank\u2019s website, which does not differentiate between local and foreign investors. The average yield for the one-year bills dropped down from 32.30% last week to 30.14% yesterday, while the six-month bills\u2019 average yield dropped to 29.91% from 31.84% last week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>JPMorgan and Citigroup recommended last week buying one-year EGP t-bills, <\/strong>with Citigroup telling its clients to stop buying if the EGP weakens to 60 against the greenback. Meanwhile, BlueBay Asset Management bought up local t-bills after five years of being wary \u2014 \u201cWe are constructive short term, because [Egypt] delivered pretty much everything apart from a cabinet reshuffle,\u201d the firm's EM head Polina Kurdyavko said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>T-bonds have had a tougher luck: <\/strong>The government declined all bids in a Monday auction of the longer-term EGP t-bonds. The government was reluctant to meet the high interest rates demanded by investors, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/articles\/egypt-declines-bids-for-local-currency-bonds-after-devaluation-bankers-say\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reports, citing unnamed bankers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#9- <\/strong><strong>Moody\u2019s has upgraded the long-term deposit ratings outlook of five local banks <\/strong>to positive from negative, the credit rating agency wrote <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d94a2ed8-e2c6-4408-a754-eca1c4085d48\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">on Tuesday<\/a>. The five banks are state-owned lenders National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, and Banque du Caire, as well as the country\u2019s largest private sector bank CIB \u2014 Moody\u2019s affirmed their Caa1 long-term deposit rating. The banks also include Alex Bank \u2014 Moody\u2019s affirmed its B3 rating. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This came after the agency <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/8b7ded3a-e188-4a20-a95c-54d7ae389ddc\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">upgraded Egypt\u2019s outlook to positive<\/a><\/strong><strong> from negative<\/strong> affirming its Caa1 rating last week, citing the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b0b97fcf-95b0-4d39-86ae-0a4989221520\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 35 bn<\/a> Ras El Hekma investment and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ac569e2c-c6f2-480e-bdaa-3f1cd4f81d05\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">recent policy measures<\/a> taken by the CBE, which helped the country access a bigger <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/033d5dd6-d417-4ad7-8154-b113a19b96a7\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 8 bn<\/a> package from the IMF.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#10- Only Inflation is defying the positive trend: <\/strong>Annual urban inflation jumped 5.9 percentage points to 35.7% in February from the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/175147fe-3a1c-4e80-85f2-916747c0bf6e\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">month before<\/a> on the back of an unexpected jump in food prices. The \u201cspike in the EGP\u2019s parallel rate during the month to historical highs before it trended lower\u201d contributed to the unexpected jump in inflation, EFG Hermes\u2019 Mohamed Abu Basha told Bloomberg on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Some were expecting an uptick in inflation to come, but not in February: <\/strong>The unexpected increase in inflation reflects prices in the month before the central bank floated the EGP and moved forward with a jumbo rate hike, which some believe will add additional inflationary pressures. The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/b84efbb3-3eca-44c4-8cec-0c92fb177fec\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Financial Times<\/a> says we\u2019re in line for an EUR 7.4 bn package (USD 8 bn) that will come in a mix of grants and loans and aims to prop up the country\u2019s economy and manage migration to the EU. We think the range is more likely to be EUR 5-5.5 bn.<\/p>\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Get ready to meet the new face of Arafa Holding: <\/strong>The EGX will halt trading on Arafa Holding, the company behind fashion brand Concrete, starting Sunday as the holding company carries out a demerger, according to an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2024\/3\/1217.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">EGX disclosure (pdf)<\/a>. But it\u2019s not just about the food \u2014 it\u2019s about the experience where you get to watch the fire blazing from all the spices and sauces while the chefs work their magic in their open kitchen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>We began with the Gyoza and Dim Sums, along with the viral cucumber salad.<\/strong> For theGyoza (a popular Japanese dumpling dish consisting of a filling wrapped in thin dough and then pan-fried, steamed, or boiled) which we ordered with a chicken filling and for the Dim Sums we ordered a shrimp filling. Between the two, the Gyoza was our favorite \u2014 since the Dim Sum needed an extra 5 minutes of steam to cook the glassy thin dough \u2014 but both flavors were up to par. As for the cucumber salad, we were disappointed that it didn\u2019t come in the accordion style that\u2019s presented on social media \u2014 nevertheless, it was a definite member of the clean-plate club.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The star of the show would be the Pad Thai, and we imagine that it tasted exactly like it<\/strong><strong> would from a Thai street vendor.<\/strong> The savory, sweet, and tangy notes were in harmony with the juicy shrimp, tender thick rice noodles, and crunchy peanuts. We felt that it just needed that splash of soy sauce which, when added, really brought the dish together.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>We also tried the Shiitake Fire Ramen \u2014 word to the wise \u2014 they did not lie about the<\/strong><strong> heat.<\/strong> If you like it hot, you\u2019ll get it hot: This ramen is bold, spicy, and a warm hug of a broth. The burst of umami goodness complemented the bold heat that builds with every bite \u2014 but it would have benefitted from a creamy touch. But if you\u2019re a fan of light broth then this is for you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>We can safely say we\u2019re going back
