Until then: Enjoy the weekend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>LAST WEEK IN 3 MINS-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Israel\u2019s devastating military campaign in Gaza \u2014 which is now on its 63rd day \u2014 topped headlines at home and around the <\/strong><strong>world <\/strong>as fighting intensified and Palestinian civilians were left with virtually no options for safe refuge. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>On the domestic front, we had a handful of troubling macro indicators, some major<\/strong><strong> energy updates<\/strong>, and some progress on the state\u2019s privatization drive, which could see stakes in another military-owned fuel retailer offloaded in the near future. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ISRAEL\u2019S RAMPAGE IN GAZA-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#1- Israel resumed its bombing campaign in Gaza late last week <\/strong>after negotiations with Hamas to extend the temporary ceasefire collapsed. The Israeli forces <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/eb5f8a03-1f87-42ab-bca0-500006c7c008\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">said on Saturday<\/a> that it had bombed 400 targets in Gaza and 50 targets in Khan Younis in the first 24 hours following the end of the truce, airstrikes which according to the Gaza Health Ministry killed 193 Palestinians. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/cb354e13-4ccc-4135-a110-8f6cc3390cc4\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Further attacks<\/a> throughout the week have severely strained remaining Palestinian hospitals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>\u2026and continued to push thousands of Palestinians towards the Egyptian border:<\/strong> The Israeli military <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/eb5f8a03-1f87-42ab-bca0-500006c7c008\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">expanded its devastating air campaign<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/bc2797c6-eb7e-4519-b65c-200453999609\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">ground invasion<\/a> to the south of the territory, where it had previously ordered hundreds of thousands of civilians living in the north to flee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#2- <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/how-many-palestinians-have-died-gaza-war-how-will-counting-continue-2023-12-06\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Nearly 18<\/a><\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/how-many-palestinians-have-died-gaza-war-how-will-counting-continue-2023-12-06\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">k Palestinians<\/a><\/strong><strong> have been killed in Gaza since 7 October<\/strong> and over 400k people in northern Gaza no longer have access to medical services, while at least 1.8 mn people \u2014 almost 80% of the population \u2014 have been <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/eb5f8a03-1f87-42ab-bca0-500006c7c008\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">internally displaced<\/a> over the course of the past nine weeks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"> <strong>Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/bb9264b1-88c4-4c10-9c54-e1b9e3b2a40f\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">will join other Arab and Islamic ministers<\/a><\/strong><strong> in DC for a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken<\/strong>amid ongoing efforts to put an end to Israeli aggression.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>MACRO + FISCAL + MONETARY INDICATORS CONTINUED TO POUR IN\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"> <strong>#1- We have at least <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ff49ee89-5a9a-422b-a6d3-99cd78e21b65\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">USD 42.3 bn in foreign debt<\/a><\/strong><strong> to repay in 2024. <\/strong>Egypt will have to pay some USD 32.8 bn to fulfill medium and long-term debt obligations in 2024 in addition to USD 9.5 bn in short-term debt obligations during the first half of 2024. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#2- Net foreign liabilities hit a record high in October<\/strong> as pressure on the country\u2019s external position continued to mount. Our net foreign asset deficit <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/58e9ec1e-7921-4ec2-8a7a-861d5c2dca6a\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">widened to USD 27.2 bn<\/a> from USD 26.8 bn in September. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Meanwhile, our net foreign reserves inched up for the fifteenth consecutive month in November<\/strong>, according to Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/cbe.org.eg\/en\/news-publications\/news\/2023\/12\/07\/07\/29\/net-international-reserves-at-the-end-of-november-2023\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">data<\/a> released yesterday. Our reserves rose to USD 35.2 bn at the end of November vs USD 35.1 bn at the end of October. The CBE managed to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/edition\/pm\/6ad2caed-6e00-4a18-8705-84cb7f9bbb35\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">recover<\/a> a total of USD 2 bn since September 2022. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>AND<\/strong><strong>-<\/strong><strong>We\u2019ve seen more meetings between the IMF and Egyptian officials <\/strong>ahead of the anticipated post-election devaluation, with the most <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/790e79c3-8d2c-440a-9ab1-57aa11afbfe0\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">recent<\/a> one taking place at COP28 between IMF head Kristalina Georgieva and CBE Governor Hassan Abdalla, where Georgieva said she expects the size of the loan to Egypt to be increased due to the country\u2019s \u201cadditional burden and the impact of the surrounding external crises.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3-<\/strong><strong>Egypt\u2019s <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/22bb2d4c-8c1d-4aef-be7c-87068e127e5a\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">budget deficit almost doubled y-o-y<\/a><\/strong><strong> in the first quarter of the current fiscal <\/strong><strong>year <\/strong>as rising borrowing costs squeeze public finances. AT THE MOVIES-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong> Don\u2019t let the bad reviews stop you from seeing <\/strong><strong>What Happens Later<\/strong><strong>. <\/strong>There\u2019s much to say about Meg Ryan\u2019s revival of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/694b9a93-9871-43a2-873a-05d9562096fe\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">rom-com<\/a> (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/zceSigCGWSQ\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">watch trailer, runtime: 2:36<\/a>), but in one way or another it will become a hallmark of the genre \u2014 it just may be ahead of its time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>It follows W. Davis (Ryan) and\u2026 W. Davis (David Duchovny), ex-lovers who find<\/strong><strong> themselves snowed in at an airport with no one\u2019s company but each other\u2019s. <\/strong>Willa lives in Austin and is heading to Boston, and William lives in Boston heading to Austin \u2014 literally going in opposite directions. We follow the gradual postmortem of their relationship, the audience learning little by little the complexities of their relationship and their characters as they reconnect.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Ryan rose to superstardom on the back of the genre<\/strong>, especially with timeless hits like <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0128853\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">You\u2019ve Got Mail<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0098635\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">When Harry Met Sally<\/a>, and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0108160\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Sleepless in Seattle<\/a>. As an experienced veteran, she was able to pinpoint which tropes she felt were tired, and which tropes were necessary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>It isn\u2019t an application of the genre, it\u2019s a rebellion. <\/strong>In fact, in one of the earliest scenes, William unplugs an electronic poster advertising a movie called Rom Com to charge his phone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">Ryan, who is director, co-writer, and leading lady of the film, upends some of the tropes that we\u2019re familiar with, making the film an interesting departure from the typical feel-good guy-gets-the-girl movies of yore.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>But the intentional subversion of rom-com tropes makes the ones included in What<\/strong><strong> Happens Later feel caricatural.<\/strong> This may have been done on purpose \u2014 Willa seems like an exaggerated amalgamation of Ryan\u2019s past roles, the classic <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thewomens.network\/blog\/the-manic-pixie-dream-girl-who-she-is-and-everything-she-represents\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">manic pixie dream girl<\/a>, and William is the typical emotionally-clogged male lead who blossoms under her influence. Though it would be disingenuous to say that that\u2019s all they are.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The title, What Happens Later, is an answer rather than a question. <\/strong>It is an ode to those who grew up watching rom-coms and realized just how removed from the realities of relationships these movies were. So what happens later? Well, life. It gets in the way of our plans, molding us into different people in the process \u2014 but that\u2019s not necessarily a bad thing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>WHERE TO WATCH- <\/strong>What Happens Later is showing at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/linktr.ee\/CimaArkan\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Cima Arkan<\/a>, and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.festivalcitymallcairo.com\/home\/whats-inside\/entertainment\/Galaxy+Cinema\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Cairo Festival City<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<hr style=\"height:2px;border-width:0;color:gray;background-color:gray\">\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>The Marsh King\u2019s Daughter <\/strong><strong>is<\/strong><strong> a thriller covering childhood trauma \u2014 but not how <\/strong><strong>you\u2019d expect it<\/strong>(<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FDnUVhLMqI0\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">watch trailer, runtime: 2:24<\/a>). Helena (Daisy Ridley), has managed to build a stable life for herself far away from her troubled past. She has a cookie-cutter life: A husband, and daughters who know nothing about her traumatizing past. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>It all falls apart when Helena\u2019s father (Ben Mendelsohn) breaks out of prison, <\/strong>it is then revealed that she was a product of his aggression, and the woman he held captive in the woods for years. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>Helena worries that her father will come to take her <\/strong><strong>daughter <\/strong><strong>and she sets out to stop him before he can. <\/strong>All the while, the movie brings together scenes from her childhood when she was raised in the woods, and present day where she dedicates her life to fighting her past from coming back to haunt her. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>Not everything is black and white, which the movie does a great job of portraying. <\/strong>During Helena\u2019s flashbacks, we\u2019re shown her having a seemingly loving relationship with her father, which makes it even more devastating when she finds out that he is a kidnapper and her world comes crashing down. We appreciated the nuance of having the antagonist be a character that, at times, you don\u2019t want to hate. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>The real standouts of the film are Ridley and Mendelsohn\u2019s performances. <\/strong>Both actors excel in their roles, even when the dialogue was a bit dry. We found that to be the case especially in Helena\u2019s present life when her conversations with her husband were extremely surface level and lacking affection, which could be the result of her character\u2019s experiences. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>While predictable, the film delivers on the thrill. <\/strong>Stale dialogue aside, the flashback scenes were especially interesting to watch and we wished there were more of them. But, overall, we enjoyed the movie and think the rating is unreasonably low. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>WHERE TO WATCH- <\/strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/egy.voxcinemas.com\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Vox Cinemas<\/a> in either <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/VK6kfBmVYGyqcdfb6\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">City Centre Almaza<\/a>, or <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/7DeftR3DViYFy3FP6\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Mall of Egypt<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>? FROM THE BOOKSTORE-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"> <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/60879779-everyone-in-my-family-has-killed-someone\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone<\/a><\/strong><strong> is a captivating mystery-thriller novel.<\/strong> The protagonist (Ernie\/Ern)\u2019s entire family has killed, and some of them more than once, including him. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>When they all end up at a ski resort for a family reunion, things get messy.<\/strong> We find out that Ern was ostracized from the family for some years, but was obligated to attend the affair for reasons we find out later. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>They\u2019re not all grade-A assassins like you might think, though. <\/strong>It\u2019s a little more complicated than that. As we discover the family\u2019s mishaps and unusual past, you\u2019re taken on a journey of mystery and surprise. The writing is extra enjoyable because of the dark, yet smart humor incorporated throughout. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>You\u2019ll have to pay attention to the details.<\/strong> Benjamin Stevenson\u2019s writing is extremely clever and riddled with complex hints. Every metaphor, piece of punctuation, or word choice is intentional. Ernie, also the narrator, doesn\u2019t make it easy for the reader before he eventually unveils some truths, making the read even more thrilling. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;text-align:left\"><strong>Good news, if you finish this and don\u2019t know what to do with yourself, there\u2019s a second<\/strong><strong> part to the series to fill that hole. <\/strong>The recently published <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/167006698-everyone-on-this-train-is-a-suspect\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect<\/a> is another fan favorite. Written in his unique style, Stevenson places Ernie in another tricky set of situations. In the year 2023, DS (Detective Sergeant) Shahara Hasan, a member of London\u2019s Metropolitan Police, was assigned to maintain order during a right-wing street protest. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>While on duty, she spots Syed, a young man armed with a gun, and chases him. <\/strong>Her pursuit leads her to Longharvest Lane in Whitechapel, where she discovers the body of a murdered man. Jumping back in time to 1941, DS (Detective Sergeant) Charles Whiteman, received an order from a secretive organization he was working with to retrieve an apparently identical body from Longharvest Lane and deliver it to a specific location.
