Following weeks of negotiations mediated by Egypt and Qatar, Hamas agreed to release 50 women and children during the four-day truce in exchange for the release of 150 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel and that 200 additional aid trucks be granted permission to cross through the Rafah border every day. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#2- Egypt drafted a UN Security Council resolution that aims to overcome \u201cexisting<\/strong><strong> obstacles and imbalances\u201d to the entry of aid into Gaza<\/strong>, the Foreign Ministry said earlier this week. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#3- Madbouly reiterated the government\u2019s refusal to accept the displacement of<\/strong><strong> Palestinians into Sinai:<\/strong> \u201cEgypt will take a firm reaction against any attempts to resettle Palestinians in Sinai,\u201d Madbouly told MPs on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#4- Earlier in the week, Israeli forces ordered doctors, patients and refugees to evacuate<\/strong><strong> Gaza City\u2019s Al Shifa Hospital. <\/strong>Doctors and witnesses <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/249ef5b0-ed0d-4bd9-a8f8-35ba6d708f13\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> that the IDF had given the thousands of people at the hospital an hour to vacate the area and escorted some of them out at gunpoint.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>\u2026and <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/249ef5b0-ed0d-4bd9-a8f8-35ba6d708f13\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">continued its air assault<\/a><\/strong><strong> on the Jabalia refugee camp <\/strong>and one UN school, which Egypt decried as a war crime and a \u201cdeliberate insult to the UN.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#5- Still, Israel is, so far, yet to provide evidence of the claimed Hamas command center<\/strong><strong> underneath Al Shifa:<\/strong> The military\u2019s siege has <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0a304de7-b850-42ce-9533-5658e468981e\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">all but destroyed Al Shifa<\/a> as a functioning hospital, with a visiting UN team calling it a \u201c death zone \u201d after surveying the site on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#6- Another Israeli minister called for ethnic cleansing: <\/strong>Intelligence Minister Gila Gamliel became the latest senior government official <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0a304de7-b850-42ce-9533-5658e468981e\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">to call for<\/a> the \u201cvoluntary resettlement\u201d of Palestinians outside of Gaza. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>\u2026but the EU isn\u2019t on board: <\/strong>EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen backed Egypt\u2019s rejection of Israeli ambitions to forcibly displace Gazans into Sinai during talks with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in Cairo <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/249ef5b0-ed0d-4bd9-a8f8-35ba6d708f13\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">on Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>#7- The death toll in Gaza rose <\/strong><strong>to 14.5k + <\/strong>and at least 53 journalists have been killed since Israel started its bombardement of the territory, marking the deadliest month for journalists since CPJ began gathering data in 1992.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>WE SAW A MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS IN THE STATE\u2019S PRIVATIZATION DRIVE-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"> <strong>The government offloaded 30% of Eastern Company in <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/d42b0c32-513b-4c59-9cd3-ee95c9515f06\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">a stake sale worth USD 625 mn<\/a><\/strong>, making it the single-largest transaction since it rebooted its privatization drive earlier this year. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>UAE-based Global Investment Holding (GIH) purchased the stake from the<\/strong><strong> company\u2019s state-owned majority shareholder,<\/strong> the Holding Company for Chemical Industries (CIHC) for EGP 24.52 apiece, totaling EGP 16.4 bn (USD 532 mn). GIH agreed to pay an additional EGP 4.38 per share, taking the total value of the transaction to EGP 19.3 bn (USD 625 mn) and making it the company\u2019s single-largest shareholder.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Advisors:<\/strong> Our friends at <strong>EFG Hermes<\/strong> advised GIH on the transaction and were also sole broker for its execution, they <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2023\/11\/980.pdf\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">said in a statement (pdf)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>GIH will provide Eastern Company with <\/strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/6133528b-ff49-4ccb-b8f3-d7b3f995bd33\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">some USD 150 mn<\/a><\/strong><strong> in hard currency next year<\/strong> to bolster the cigarette maker\u2019s ability to source manufacturing inputs. GIH reportedly sees the facility as a key measure to ensure the profitability of its new investment. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The government will use the bulk of the proceeds from the sale<\/strong> to invest in fresh capacity at existing state-owned fertilizer plants with an eye to ramping up exports. FROM THE BOOKSTORE-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"> <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/aucbookstores.com\/collections\/new-arrivals\/products\/9781649032546\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">The House of the Coptic Woman: A Novel<\/a><\/strong><strong>by Ashraf El Ashmawi and translated <\/strong><strong>from Arabic to English by Peter Daniel.<\/strong> El Ashmawi is a judge in the court of appeals and the author of novels like <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/aucpress.com\/9781649030764\/the-lady-of-zamalek\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">The Lady of Zamalek<\/a> and The Barman, where he draws upon his experience as inspiration for his books. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>It starts in the Egyptian sa\u2019eed\/countryside,<\/strong> beginning with Nader, a young prosecutor whose new post in a rural Egyptian village introduces him to a whirlwind of events.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Not all is peaceful in the countryside: <\/strong>From tragic deaths and suicides to unexplained cases of arson, where homes and agricultural lands are burned to the ground, the young, na\u00efve protagonist is baffled when he cannot seem to answer the endless stream of questions that arise from his surroundings. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Then t<\/strong><strong>here is Hoda:<\/strong> A Coptic woman with a tragic past that somewhat captures the persistent and enduring nature of sectarian strife in Upper Egypt. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Entertaining and informative\u2026but we needed more: <\/strong>While the book is an interesting read, it does not seem to add a whole lot of nuance to someone who is already familiar with the nature of Egyptian society in the southern governorates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>We have read this before, and it was better: <\/strong>With books like Tawfiq al-Hakim\u2019s <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Diary-Country-Prosecutor-Tawfik-al-Hakim\/dp\/0863565492\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Diary of a<\/a><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Diary-Country-Prosecutor-Tawfik-al-Hakim\/dp\/0863565492\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Country Prosecutor<\/a> \u2014 which receives an explicit nod at the beginning of the novel being a cult classic \u2014 it seems that the author is trying to compare himself with a legend, and unfortunately, falls short. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>WHERE TO FIND IT- <\/strong>The new novel can be found in Arabic across most Egyptian bookstores and in English at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/aucbookstores.com\/collections\/new-arrivals\/products\/9781649032546\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">AUC Bookstores<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ent.news\/2023\/11\/1301.jpg?ssl=1\"\/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>? HOT AND FRESH OUT OF THE KITCHEN-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"> <strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nuwaeg\/?hl=en\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">N\u00fcwa<\/a><\/strong><strong> is a pan-Asian restaurant with a variety of cuisines but does not lose focus. <\/strong>If you\u2019re anything like us, you\u2019re wary of restaurants that promise too many cuisines. We prefer ones that specialize in just one, but N\u00fcwa makes a great case for a diverse menu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>BEFORE THE MAIN ACT-<\/strong>If you want a tasty bite to ease you in, the crab summer rolls are a good gateway.Even though the servers told us that they are the most returned item, we suggest that you check it out, especially if you have an experienced palate. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The appetizer may be a new mouthfeel for some<\/strong>, as the rice paper is gelatinous, and the glass noodles inside are chewy. The taste of the crab and the crunch of the cucumbers and carrots add an extra (and familiar) dimension to the texture, and the accompanying lime sauce makes for a fresh and tasty bite.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>MAIN COURSES ARE ON POINT-<\/strong> The kung pao chicken is a great alternative if you\u2019re a fan of sweet and sour chicken. While the latter dish is available, we recommend that you switch it up. It\u2019s lighter than the sweet and sour as the chicken isn\u2019t fried, but it offers similar flavors to the ones we know and love, though it is less tangy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>NOODLES ARE A HIT- <\/strong>The shiitake udon will hit the spot. The noodles are cooked expertly, and the shiitake mushrooms have soaked up all that delicious sauce. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY- <\/strong>There are a number of curries and stews, but we loved the crunch and flavor of the vegetables delight, where the bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and broccoli are coated in rich oyster sauce. You could tell that they were cooked and served right away, too, as they weren\u2019t limp from being on the stove for too long.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>NOTE- The peking duck was acceptable, but not as fresh. <\/strong>The flavors were as expected, but both the duck and the pancakes were a bit dry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>MATCHA CHOCOLATE CAKE FOR THE MATCHA-HATERS-<\/strong> While matcha lovers may feel like the dessert could use an extra helping of the green tea powder, anyone who dislikes the grassy taste will love it being complemented by the chocolate and tempered with the vanilla ice cream on the side.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>? Not macOS, Android, iOS or ChromeOS. It\u2019s not Slack or Salesforce or (sadly) Google Workplace.
