Analysts at the institute wrote that<\/span><span> a lack of clarity over the future of Egypt\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/c374319e-e849-44f6-bf5a-8179fb41caf5\" style=\"\">USD 3 bn loan program with the IMF<\/a><\/span><span>, coupled with <\/span><span>high external debt levels, twin fiscal and current account deficits, a deteriorating net foreign asset position, and portfolio outflows, are all putting pressure on the country\u2019s finances. <\/span><span>The IIF added that<\/span><span> adopting a flexible exchange rate will be key to resolving the imbalances and rebuilding reserves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">LEGISLATION WATCH- <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Fresh measures to reel in FDI: <\/span><span>The Madbouly government made a number of moves that help advance the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/a3816fe9-2abf-4b6c-91ce-680ea72e2d1b\" style=\"\">22 decisions introduced<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> by the Supreme Investment Council (SIC) in its first meeting back in May in efforts to boost investment. Under current rules, foreigners are allowed to purchase a maximum of two properties. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Approving <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">two draft decisions allocating state owned land in New <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Cairo and Sixth of October to unnamed international real estate developers<\/span><span>, to be paid for in USD.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Foreign investors will also, for the first time, be allowed to register as importers with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">10-year licenses<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, potentially making it easier for them to get goods and production inputs into the country without contracting with an Egyptian middleman.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">More incentives + leveling the playing field:<\/span><span>The House Economic Affairs Committee <\/span><span>approved amendments to the Investment Law aimed at expanding incentives, while the Budget and Planning Committee approved a draft bill reinstating taxes on state entities. Cabinet <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/b982f1bd-6431-49dc-89f5-b9d5f6597c8f\" style=\"\">signed off<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> on the two bills before the Eid Al Adha break.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">PRIVATIZATION<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\"> WATCH-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Sidpec\u2019s board greenlights Baker Tilly\u2019s valuation ahead of a potential all-share merger <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">with <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (Ethydco). Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals (Sidpec) already owns 20% of Ethydco \u2014 which is currently flagged for the government\u2019s privatization program. It <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">can be (at least, according to this review): <\/span><span>T<\/span><span>he fifth <\/span><span>installment of this legendary (no pun intended) franchise is the first of the series to not be written by George Lucas and\/or directed by Steven Spielberg. That could explain why the film is being bombed by reviewers (<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=G_k8cDLe-Kk\" style=\"\">watch, runtime: 11:31<\/a><\/span><span>) and not doing well at the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/07\/box-office-indiana-jones-and-the-dial-of-destiny-superman-returns-july-4th-bombs-1235429932\/\" style=\"\">box office<\/a><\/span><span>, because we\u2019ve thoroughly enjoyed it. Our assessment: Franchise purists \u2014 long sick of Disney massacring their favorite films and characters like they\u2019re Sonny Corleone \u2014 see this as another in a long line of misses by the conglomerate. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">But we\u2019re of the opinion that it could turn out to be a cult classic<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, especially as It follows the standard formula that made it a successful franchise. For one, Harrison Ford reprises his role with the coolness and ease we\u2019re used to. This time as an aging Indiana Jones being reluctantly pulled back into action by his goddaughter, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag fame, to hunt down Archimedes\u2019 Antikythera dial, rumored to have the ability to change the course of history, before the Nazis do. Classic Indy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">While the movie can serve as a standalone for those unfamiliar with the franchise<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, fans of Indy will be delighted by the throwbacks and cameos peppered throughout the movie, a little wink from Lucas and Spielberg, who both serve as executive producers. These nods to the original movies from now-director James Mangold (who directed Le Mans 66, aka Ford v Ferrari) may be mildly confusing if you\u2019re a first-time watcher, but inconsequentially so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Following up on the previous installment, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, seemed almost impossible<\/span><span> \u2014 the movie famously torpedoed the franchise \u2014 but luckily, Mangold has experience breathing life into a flailing franchise as demonstrated by <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tv.apple.com\/eg\/movie\/logan\/umc.cmc.1n3n02llymsjkbc3hvpajiwii?action=play\" style=\"\">Logan<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, the brilliant swan song for X-Men\u2019s Wolverine. Instead of walking back the events in Crystal Skull, Mangold leans into it while also grounding the movie significantly. So while overt supernatural elements carry over, they seem less out of left field. Jennifer Lawrence stars in this romcom (more like romp-com) as Maddie, a Montauk native struggling to keep her house amidst the gentrification of her village. So when she comes across an ad to date unsuspecting 19-year-old Percy (Broadway wunderkind Andrew Barth Feldman) in exchange for a car, she decides to go for it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Not only a change of pace for movie theaters, the movie marks Lawrence\u2019s freedom from the shackles of Oscar bait films and contracted franchises. <\/span><span>Lawrence\u2019s acting chops were already evident, earning her plenty of <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_awards_and_nominations_received_by_Jennifer_Lawrence\" style=\"\">awards and nominations<\/a><\/span><span> from the likes of the Golden Globe, the SAG Awards, and the Academy Awards \u2014 but not all good actors are good comedians. Luckily, Lawrence is.
