But before we dive in, we got an interest rate announcement from the CBE last night\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">ECONOMY<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#1- <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The CBE kept interest rates steady<\/span><span style=\"\">at its monetary policy meeting yesterday, according to a <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2023\/6\/1202.pdf\" style=\"\">statement (pdf)<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> out last night. This <\/span><span>comes in line with expectations, with seven of nine analysts we <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e3e1c87b-cd8a-48a0-8f93-24a37dad3576\" style=\"\">polled<\/a><\/span><span> forecasting a pause due to slowing global tightening and lower prospects of a near-term EGP deval. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#2- Another private-sector minimum wage hike: <\/span><span style=\"\">The second hike of the year to<\/span><span style=\"\">the private <\/span><span>sector\u2019s minimum wage <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/16f16992-3020-4afa-b3bd-51f5b9b48391\" style=\"\">will take place in July<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> with an increase of 11% to EGP 3k. The move comes from the NCW (National Council for Wages) to alleviate the strain of workers during the inflation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#3- More chatter on the prospects of a fourth deval: <\/span><span style=\"\">Goldman Sachs\u2019 MENA economist <\/span><span>Farouk Soussa <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e71ac9b0-4970-4caa-9a5c-f210bec6715a\" style=\"\">asserts<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">we will need USD 5 bn under our belts in order to manage an \u201corderly transition'' to a freefloat. Soussa predicts that Egypt has two risky routes: Either float the EGP without a backup of FX, which would see a steep deval, or keep the IMF program on pause until Egypt fulfills the requirements. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Deutsche Bank, on the other hand, <\/span><span style=\"-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;font-weight:700;text-decoration-skip-ink:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/47045e95-6f1a-4a02-a2a3-ef4bdecadd77\" style=\"\">thinks<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\"> another devaluation would not be \u201cthe right <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">way forward\u201d for the country<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, stressing instead the need to address underlying challenges, like our local debt stock. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">PRIVATIZATION WATCH-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#1- IFC to advise us on our privatization program: <\/span><span style=\"\">We <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ccf60aa3-abe9-4068-bfa8-8edb73995d9c\" style=\"\">signed a transaction advisory<\/a><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ccf60aa3-abe9-4068-bfa8-8edb73995d9c\" style=\"\">agreement<\/a><\/span><span>with the IFC that aims to involve the multilateral lender in the strategy and in developing an implementation plan for the state privatization program, including preparing and restructuring assets and attracting USD 2 bn in private investments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">This comes as the Madbouly government <\/span><span style=\"-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;font-weight:700;text-decoration-skip-ink:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/82558001-a825-41bc-8575-cd00d3126866\" style=\"\">put together a unit<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">aimed at expediting <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">decision-making for the privatization process.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> The role of the unit in the cabinet is to track progress, work with the IFC, see to investor requests, and assemble periodical reports for the cabinet. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#2- SCA to IPO Canal Mooring and Lights: <\/span><span style=\"\">The Suez Canal Authority is planning to sell <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/02986738-c33c-4f19-8c5d-e7eb11a097ba\" style=\"\">a<\/a><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/02986738-c33c-4f19-8c5d-e7eb11a097ba\" style=\"\">20% stake<\/a><\/span><span> in the Canal Mooring and Lights on our bourse as part of the state privatization program. The company will be transferred to the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/logistics\/en\/news\/story\/89a13be7-5a5a-49af-9941-9f1f14fff73c\" style=\"\">newly established holding company<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> that will obtain ownership of some of the authority\u2019s assets earmarked for privatization.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#3- Murmurs around Ezz Steel\u2019s interest in Ezz Dekheila: <\/span><span style=\"\">Reports from <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/shorturl.at\/adyAI\" style=\"\">Asharq Business<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\">emerged that Ezz Steel subsidiary <\/span><span>Ezz Dekheila Steel was handed a EGP 20 bn+ valuation ahead of a potential sale that could see the government offload a 14% stake in the EGX-listed Ezz Dekheila to its parent firm. Later, Ezz Steel <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/48b1677d-f63c-4865-8b78-35e2ceffa20b\" style=\"\">denied that it had made offers<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> to acquire more shares in its subsidiary. The plot follows Barry Allen (played by Ezra Miller) discovering that he can run fast enough to travel back in time, and choosing to break the axiomatic time traveling rule: <\/span><span>D<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">on\u2019t mess with the past. What follows is an exploration of the repercussions and a ton of fun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The movie\u2019s controversies precede its reputation, the bulk of it surrounding Miller, as the <\/span><span>actor is wanted for <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/film\/news\/ezra-miller-arrests-allegations-timeline-flash-1235646961\/\" style=\"\">committing federal crimes<\/a><\/span><span>. Watching the movie, we understand why Miller wasn\u2019t recast, as reshooting would\u2019ve been an impossible feat, and the film had already had its fill of turbulence trying to keep a director on board \u2014 the role changed hands six times over production, <\/span><span>according to the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/06\/16\/movies\/the-flash-ezra-miller.html\" style=\"\">New York Times<\/a><\/span><span>. Perhaps that explains the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/entertainment\/music\/a44220957\/the-flash-cgi-distortion-director-explained\/\" style=\"\">atrocious CGI<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The Flash is a solid watch.<\/span><span style=\"\"> It is full of hilarious scenarios and impactful emotional moments <\/span><span>that didn\u2019t feel too contrived<\/span><span>. Also,<\/span><span> the \u201cscience\u201d behind Barry\u2019s ability to time travel was believable, given the topic. The main cast deliver<\/span><span>s<\/span><span> great performances, the most strikin<\/span><span>g c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">omes from a perhaps underutilized Sasha Calle as Kara Zor-El (or Supergirl, though she\u2019s not called that in the movie). Ember (voiced by Leah Lewis) is a second generation immigrant fire element grappling <\/span><span>with taking over the family business in a city that doesn't particularly accommodate \u201cher people\u201d. So naturally, she was raised to believe that elements don\u2019t mix. Enter Ember\u2019s foil, Wade Ripple (voiced by Mamoudou Athie) \u2014 a privileged water element happy to go wherever life takes him. And so, Pixar\u2019s signature unlikely friendship (though in this instance, not one that is entirely platonic) develops. HOT AND FRESH OUT OF THE KITCHEN-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"\"> <\/span><span style=\"-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;font-weight:700;text-decoration-skip-ink:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/pastini.eg\/?hl=en\" style=\"\">Pastini<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\"> \u2014 New Cairo\u2019s Italian restaurant De Jeur \u2014 is a one-trick pony and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">that\u2019s perfectly okay with us: <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/SC1rGuKAywigcKTY6\" style=\"\">Tucked away<\/a><\/span><span> in the corner of the One Golden Square <\/span><span>Mall plaza, the restaurant only serves main courses <\/span><span>of pasta<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, and they excel at it. The bruschetta was delightfully light and crispy, accompanied by freshly chopped tomatoes. The buffalo mozzarella added a creamy touch to the dish. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The pappardelle al pomodoro was our favorite dish of the four we tried. <\/span><span style=\"\">The pasta was <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">perfectly cooked, the tomato sauce was well-balanced, and the pasta-to-sauce ratio was perfect. The rigatoni al pesto genovese was another highlight, the server explaining that it would be served warm, not hot, because cooking pesto on high heat turns it bitter.
