Let\u2019s dive deeper into the numbers: <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#1- Egypt\u2019s growth outlook got another trim from the IMF: <\/span><span style=\"\">Egypt\u2019s growth is expected <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e1da5dd4-43a7-4570-8c3e-1dbbb48df72e\" style=\"\">to<\/a><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e1da5dd4-43a7-4570-8c3e-1dbbb48df72e\" style=\"\">slow to 3.7% this year<\/a><\/span><span>, the IMF said in its <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ent.news\/2023\/4\/World%20Economic%20Outlook%20April%202023_502.pdf\" style=\"\">World Economic Outlook (pdf)<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> report released on Tuesday. This is a 0.3 percentage point dip from its previous forecast in January. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The positive? We\u2019re still ahead of the global growth forecast: <\/span><span style=\"\">The IMF left its assessments <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">of the world economy largely unchanged, trimming its 2023 forecast by just 0.1 percentage points to 2.8%. This came with cautions of the risks of sticky inflation and rapid policy tightening on the global economy. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#2- Ditto the World Bank: <\/span><span style=\"\">The global lender now sees Egypt\u2019s<\/span><span style=\"\">economy <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ee8ce1f3-29e5-4eba-99f3-e3fbea436095\" style=\"\">growing at a 4.0% clip<\/a><\/span><span>during the FY 2022-2023, a downward revision from its October forecast of 4.8%, according to its <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/openknowledge.worldbank.org\/server\/api\/core\/bitstreams\/3e01009b-10b4-4589-a32f-d84b42b80327\/content\" style=\"\">MENA Economic Update (pdf)<\/a><\/span><span>. The World Bank still placed us among the top performers in the region, with only Djibouti expected to see higher growth among regional oil importers in 2023, at 4.4%. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">ON THE INFLATION FRONT- <\/span><span style=\"\">Prices <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/fed48338-9c78-413e-93c0-e2bc59f52ec4\" style=\"\">continued to accelerate<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> last <\/span><span style=\"\">month with annual urban <\/span><span>inflation jumping to 32.7% y-o-y in March, <\/span><span>up from 31.9% the <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/43c9a65b-6ab3-459d-b3b2-f9114f0fb374\" style=\"\">month before<\/a><\/span><span>.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> Inflation now stands at its highest in five years. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">On the brighter side \u2014 this was below analyst expectations.<\/span><span style=\"\"> T<\/span><span style=\"\">he median forecast in a poll <\/span><span>of economists conducted by <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/egypt-inflation-seen-hitting-all-time-high-march-2023-04-06\/\" style=\"\">Reuters<\/a><\/span><span> had inflation accelerating to 33.6% in March. Maybe we\u2019ve reached the peak?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">PRIVATIZATION WATCH-<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#1- Could the Export Development Bank (EBank) be included in the state\u2019s rebooted <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">privatization program? <\/span><span>The Madbouly government is reportedly <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/949808ec-6766-4180-9d42-6c14825eba76\" style=\"\">considering it<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> with preliminary studies underway. Adding the EGX-listed EBank would see the bank bring on board new investors via a capital increase, sources with knowledge of the matter have reportedly said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">#2- Round 4 of the Pachin bidding war: <\/span><span style=\"\">Dubai-based National Paint Holding has <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/79e85a7d-b197-43f6-9148-05543ccf0442\" style=\"\">raised its<\/a><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/79e85a7d-b197-43f6-9148-05543ccf0442\" style=\"\">offer<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> for 100% of EGX-listed Paint and Chemical Industries (Pachin) to EGP 39.80 per share \u2013 a 5% increase from its previous bid of EGP 37.75. That gives Pachin a value of EGP 955.2 mn according to our math. NPH bid is 2% higher than that of rival bidder Eagle Chemicals, which is offering to purchase at least 75% of Pachin for EGP 39.00 per share.
