He name-checked <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Exxon Mobil<\/span><span>, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">BP<\/span><span> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Shell<\/span><span> as some of the players looking to boost operations locally. Emirati outfit <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Dana Gas<\/span><span> <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/14\/conference-report-flatish-lng-exports-to-eu-dana-gas-to-commit-more-to-egypt-greenifying-the-petroleum-industry-96779\/\" style=\"\">also said<\/a><\/span><span> it plans to invest USD 100 mn in our oil and gas sector over the next two years, while London-headquartered exploration and production outfit <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Energean<\/span><span> <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/15\/conference-report-energean-to-invest-usd-350-mn-here-this-year-egas-expects-egypt-to-up-production-in-next-two-years-96903\/\" style=\"\">plans to invest<\/a><\/span><span> USD 350 mn in its <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.energean.com\/operations\/egypt\/abu-qir\/\" style=\"\">Abu Qir concession<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> this year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">BEYOND INVESTMENTS, EGYPS ALSO GOT US TONS OF EXPLORATION + EXPORT <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">UPDATES:<\/span><span> On the export front, El Molla said we aim to increase LNG exports by around 40% starting 2025, the majority of which will be earmarked to the European market. Around <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/14\/conference-report-flatish-lng-exports-to-eu-dana-gas-to-commit-more-to-egypt-greenifying-the-petroleum-industry-96779\/\" style=\"\">80% of the 7.5 mn tons of LNG<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> Egypt exported last year went to Europe, he also said, adding that exports this year are expected to remain flat. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">On the exploration front: <\/span><span style=\"\">Croatian oil and gas company drilling at their 50-50 East Bir El Nus concession in the Western Desert. <\/span><span style=\"\">Meanwhile, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">EGAS<\/span><span style=\"\"> and our friends at <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Cheiron<\/span><span style=\"\"> got the green light from the House of Representatives to go drilling for gas west of the Burullus offshore field in the Mediterranean.<\/span><span> <\/span><span>Global majors <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Chevron<\/span><span>, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Shell<\/span><span>, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Apache<\/span><span>, and tech outfit <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">IBM<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> signed agreements on low(er) carbon projects, crude We\u2019ve spoken to industry experts, and they\u2019ve given us a list of <\/span><span>locally-assembled 2023 models<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> you can get your hands on right away. Not interested in any of the models available? They\u2019ve also let us know what you have to do \u2014 or how long you\u2019ll have to wait \u2014 to get the car you actually want, particularly if it\u2019s imported as a \u201ccompletely built up\u201d vehicle. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Refresher: <\/span><span style=\"\">Egypt's automotive market has been going through a <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/02\/auto-sales-fall-73-in-december-95289\/\" style=\"\">rough<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> time for the past year, <\/span><span>as <\/span><span>import restrictions made it almost impossible for distributors to bring in fully built-up vehicles. FX shortages made the import of even kits for local assembly and spare parts challenging, forcing a number of global car manufacturers to suspend sales to Egypt \u2014 and prompting local assemblers to down tools. The import restrictions have led auto sales to <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2023\/02\/02\/auto-sales-fall-73-in-december-95289\/\" style=\"\">fall<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> more than a third in 2022, dropping from 290k vehicles in 2021 to 184k, according to figures released by the Automotive Marketing Information Council (AMIC).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">The import restrictions were officially <\/span><span style=\"-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;font-weight:700;text-decoration-skip-ink:none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.press\/stories\/2022\/10\/30\/expat-car-for-fx-scheme-signed-into-law-bye-bye-l-cs-85346\/\" style=\"\">getting scrapped<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\"> at the end of last year<\/span><span style=\"\">, but it\u2019s <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">going to take plenty of time before importers start clearing goods out of ports, let alone place new orders. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">As things stand, thousands of fully assembled cars are currently still stuck in ports<\/span><span style=\"\">,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">senior automotive industry figures told us. Imported vehicles are considered luxury goods and so are not on the list of priority commodities being released at ports, they explained. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">This means that a vast majority of the 2023 models available are locally assembled <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">models<\/span><span>, which rely on spare parts that are more easily released from ports than cars that are completely built up, also known as completely built units (CBUs), <\/span><span>several industry leaders told us<\/span><span>. <\/span><span>That also probably means you\u2019ll be seeing locally assembled vehicles available sooner than you will fully imported vehicles, given that CKD kits appear to have a higher priority in the queue for FX.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Right now, some 70% of the cars available in the market are locally assembled models<\/span><span style=\"\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Abou Ghaly Group Chief Operating Officer Tamer Kotb said. The jury\u2019s out. <\/span><span>A few industry insiders, including El Rawas and Montasser Zaytoon<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, chairperson of Zaytoun Auto Mall and member of the FEDCOC\u2019s auto division, expect the car import backlog to ease up by mid-2023, by which time they think the FX situation might have improved. parents of Cairo\u2019s fur babies: <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">As a mom myself, I know we\u2019re all smitten by the cuteness of our babies<\/span><span style=\"\">, furry or not. Our <\/span><span>hearts melt as they babble, burp, and drool \u2014 you name it. But I think we can all agree on one thing: When it\u2019s time to clean their chubby baby a*ses (however many times a day), it\u2019s a gentle reminder that when you pray for rain, <\/span><span>you better be prepared for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">the mud, too. And truly, the \u201cbrown situation\u201d is one of the least-fun parts of parenthood. Fun or not, it\u2019s our parental obligation to wash those butt cheeks, collect the diapers, toss them (the diapers, not the babies) in the bin, right? <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">But what if we woke up one day and decided to take our human balls of joy to the park \u2014 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">sans diapers \u2014 and left them to poop wherever they pleased?<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> That would be a visual treat, wouldn\u2019t it?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">And therein, friends, lies the problem: Our city streets have become the Official <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Dumpsters of Doggie Doodoo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, strewn with visual treats that leave no room for imagination. Name a size, color, texture, or state of decomposition, and you\u2019ll find it on our streets. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Nowhere is this clearer in the capital city than in the People\u2019s Democratic Republic of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Maadi<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, where there\u2019s no denying that a wonderful (and growing) community of dog owners are happily marching the streets with their bundles of joy. We love stopping to pet their dogs; seeing them come together for doggy playdates, birthday parties, and brunches; and saying \u201cHi\u201d to Michael, the neighborhood\u2019s famous dog whisperer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"\">As much as I hate to be a party pooper, I must point out the obvious (to which so many are <\/span><span>oblivious): <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Your dog doing his business is, unfortunately, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700;\">your<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\"> business, too.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> We all share the same sidewalks and streets \u2014 streets on which you\u2019ve left an unmissable trail of doggy doo. It\u2019s a joy to step in \u2014 and spread to our cars, homes and work. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Yes, I know. It\u2019s hard to scoop the poop. Hell, maybe you already have too much s*it in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">your own lives to even contemplate stopping to pick up more. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">But the rest of us don\u2019t care if you\u2019re lazy, distracted or nursing a herniated disc \u2014 you need to pick up after your fur baby. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Leaving dog poop in the middle of the street or sidewalk is bad for everyone \u2014 the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">environment, our health, and the health of other people\u2019s furry fiends.<\/span><span> The bacteria and parasites in dog poop is impressive: <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cfpub.epa.gov\/npstbx\/files\/cwc_petwastefactsheet.pdf\" style=\"\">A single gram of dog poop contains 23 mn fecal coliform bacteria (pdf)<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> \u2014 that's a lot of crap. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Wait, it gets worse: <\/span><span style=\"\">Roundworm, one of the most common parasites in dog waste, can remain <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">infectious in contaminated soil for years. And don\u2019t even get me started on salmonella, hookworm, tapeworm, giardia, and E. coli \u2014 all of which can transfer via waste to humans, to your own dog, or to others\u2019 four-legged friends. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">As a trained observer myself, I can confirm your dogs\u2019 treasure also attracts pests \u2014 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">flies, rats, and roaches<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, all of which are vectors for disease. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">\u201cBut it\u2019s a fertilizer,\u201d you say. I hear you, my dear friends. <\/span><span style=\"\">But the simple fact is that our <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">sidewalks don\u2019t need fertilizing. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">\u201cOkay, but my dog poops on the grass in front of my neighbor\u2019s building.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"\">Great. I won\u2019t <\/span><span>speak for your neighbors (who are unlikely to enjoy the s*itty situation you\u2019re creating), nor will I speak for their poor gardener. But consider this: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Dog poop is a crappy fertilizer. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Cow manure is perfect \u2014 produced by animals that feed mostly on plants and rich in nutrients that helps grass grow. Dog poop, on the other hand, is highly acidic (most dogs have diets high in protein) and it can damage your lawn if you let it sit out for too long. Composting dog poop isn\u2019t an easy peasy process, either, considering the strict guidelines you need to follow to ensure all of the parasites and bacteria die.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">Do you think I\u2019m bullsh*tting?<\/span><span style=\"\"> Go read <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration-skip-ink:none;-webkit-text-decoration-skip:none;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.doodycalls.com\/articles\/blog\/lawn-care-for-dog-owners\/can-i-use-dog-poop-as-fertilizer-in-my-garden-\/\" style=\"\">Can I use dog poop as fertilizer in my garden?<\/a><\/span><span style=\"\"> on <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Doody Calls. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">And so it is that your dogs\u2019 feces sit royally in the middle of our streets waiting to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">decompose (a process that can take weeks)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">, presenting a health threat to everyone around you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">If you don\u2019t want to read articles beseeching you to clean up after your buddy, then <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">please take a minute to read the signs around you <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">\u2014 including, in our neighborhood, around Cairo American College and the Angolan ambassador\u2019s residence. Not lacking in literacy, many turn a blind eye to these gentle reminders, leaving us no choice but to try to get their attention through less friendly measures. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">They say accountability breeds responsibility \u2014 and it\u2019s a no brainer that dog poop is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">here to stay until dog owners are held accountable<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> for what\u2019s obviously not a very civil act.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><span style=\"font-weight:700\">That\u2019s why I\u2019m suggesting our elected representatives come up with fines for dog owners <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:700\">who fail to clean up after their pets<\/span><span>, leaving feces on any sidewalk, street, lawn or other public area.
