THE BIG STORY ABROAD-<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udf10 Still getting plenty of ink are the latest updates on the ongoing US-Iran war.<\/strong> In a dramatic turn of events, the US House of Representatives approved a war powers resolution aimed at curbing US military action against Iran \u2014 a significant challenge to President Donald Trump. The vote marks the first time Capitol Hill has backed such a measure since the conflict began, with a small group of Republicans joining Democrats to support an end to the war.<\/p>\n

The outcome comes despite efforts by House Speaker Mike Johnson to block the resolution<\/strong>, having suspended floor proceedings two weeks ago when it appeared poised to pass. Any hopes that the newly announced Israel-Lebanon ceasefire agreement would bring an immediate halt to hostilities were quickly tempered on Thursday, as Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel would continue carrying out strikes in Lebanon and would not withdraw from the country\u2019s south for the time being.<\/p>\n

The ceasefire agreement, unveiled in Washington following talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials<\/strong>, is part of a US-backed diplomatic effort aimed at reducing tensions along the border. Notably absent from the negotiations was Hezbollah, the Iran-backed armed group at the center of the conflict, which has yet to publicly comment on the agreement.<\/p>\n
