The nation\u2019s largest private-sector lender has already secured regulatory approval to set up the digital bank\u2019s holding company in Abu Dhabi \u2014 targeting regulatory and tax optimization \u2014 and is in the final stretch of obtaining the Central Bank of Egypt\u2019s nod to launch the Cairo-based operating company.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>IN CONTEXT-<\/strong> Yomo will join a wave of digital-native banks hitting the market just as interest rates begin to fall. State-owned Banque Misr is already operationalizing its digital arm, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/02\/16\/egypts-digital-banks-are-coming-soon\/\" style=\"\">Onebank<\/a>, targeting EGP 40 bn in deposits in its first year. For CIB \u2014 which is pouring EGP 300 mn into Yomo over three years \u2014 its foray into digital banking is a growth play designed to expand the market, rather than just defend its current footprint against nimble fintechs, Ezz Al Arab <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/04\/06\/cib-ceo-hisham-ezz-al-arab-on-why-egypt-is-ready-to-welcome-digital-native-banks\/\" style=\"\">told us<\/a> last month.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">Charging up Benban<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"> <strong>The European Bank<\/strong><strong> for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is weighing<\/strong><strong> a USD 70 mn senior debt package for the Nubia Benban solar project<\/strong>, with board approval expected mid-June, according to a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ebrd.com\/home\/work-with-us\/projects\/psd\/56482.html#customtab-5a794f8cc0-item-835a2c08e0-tab\" style=\"\">statement<\/a> from the lender. The financing will go to Nefer Benban for Renewable Energy \u2014 a special purpose vehicle jointly owned by Infinity Power Holding and HAU Energy \u2014 to develop a 200 MW solar PV plant and a 120 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at a total estimated cost of USD 175 mn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>This is one of the most consequential renewable energy financings to watch this year.<\/strong> Utility-scale BESS \u2014 which stores solar energy generated during the day for release during peak hours or overnight \u2014 is still relatively new in the country, and Benban would be a landmark deployment.
