{"id":698648,"date":"2026-05-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/?p=698648"},"modified":"2026-05-04T06:34:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T06:34:08","slug":"egypt-earmarks-egp-5-5-bn-for-new-automotive-export-subsidies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/05\/04\/egypt-earmarks-egp-5-5-bn-for-new-automotive-export-subsidies\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt earmarks EGP 5.5 bn for new automotive export subsidies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The wheels are in motion on the state's export subsidy <\/strong><strong>program as the automotive industry is set to receive bumps ranging from<\/strong><strong> 4.5<\/strong><strong>-5.5%. <\/strong>This puts it on par with the support given to the engineering industry, a government official tells EnterpriseAM.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Revving up:<\/strong> The decision \u2014 which includes bus and component manufacturing \u2014 is expected to unlock significant production capacity and drive a surge in fresh foreign investment interest. <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/inside_industry\/how-egypt-became-the-top-destination-for-automotive-investment-in-the-middle-east\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Automotive Industry Development Program (AIDP) aims<\/a> to establish Egypt as a regional vehicle manufacturing hub, with a target of 100k vehicles produced annually and local component content starting at 20% \u2014 gradually rising to 60% value-added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Why this matters:<\/strong> Increasing export revenues is great, but the real value-add here is that the program should require automakers to follow AIDP\u2019s mandate and use a specific ratio of local components when building the cars. This will encourage manufacturers to move beyond just assembling cars \u2014 their current MO \u2014 to actually building them from the ground up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>The Finance Ministry has earmarked EGP 5.5 bn for the industry\u2019s inclusion in the<\/strong><strong> program for FY 2026\/2027<\/strong>, according to budget documents seen by EnterpriseAM. The government also wants to add four new companies to the program to kick off local manufacturing, our source tells us, with several EV makers also in talks with officials about launching export-oriented projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>MEANWHILE\u2013<\/strong> Long-time program member Volkswagen Group is also preparing to <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2025\/12\/04\/kuwait-renews-usd-2-bn-deposit-with-the-central-bank-of-egypt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">begin<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2025\/12\/04\/kuwait-renews-usd-2-bn-deposit-with-the-central-bank-of-egypt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contract manufacturing<\/a> with the Egyptian German Automotive Company plant before <a href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2025\/06\/04\/volkswagens-plan-to-make-cars-in-egypt-is-still-in-the-cards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">embarking on an integrated automotive factory<\/a> in East Port Said, we\u2019re told.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>What\u2019s next? <\/strong>The Engineering Export Council is targeting a 15% annual growth rate for the sector, aiming for USD 13.5 bn in exports by 2030, Chairman Sherif El Sayyad tells us.
