\ud83c\udf7f What\u2019s the worst that can happen in a game of hide and seek?<\/strong> Well, there\u2019s a chance your in-laws might hunt you down with a slew of artisanal weapons to sacrifice you to the devil. Since 2019, horror comedy hit Ready or Not<\/a> has cemented itself as a modern-day classic within the genre \u2014 seven years later, we\u2019re getting an encore performance<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wait, but\u2026 isn\u2019t the game over? You\u2019d think. <\/strong>As it turns out, Grace (Samara Weaving) surviving her devil-worshipping, murderous in-laws has triggered a much darker, far more dangerous game. With the Le Domas family now wiped out, a spot on a satanic council on which they resided is now empty \u2014 and the other families in the cult mean to fill it. That privilege goes to the head of the family that manages to kill Grace, and so back to the playground she goes\u2026 with her sister Faith (Kathryn Newton).<\/p>\n

What we liked: <\/strong>Ready or Not 2 isn\u2019t afraid to take the piss. The entire premise is a play on popular conspiracy theories that the world is run by devil-worshippers, a point made clear several times throughout its runtime. The dialogue is witty, often entertainingly ridiculous, and the fight scenes \u2014 which are well-executed \u2014 were fun to watch. The supporting cast \u2014 including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, and Nestor Carbonell, among others \u2014 all delivered entertaining performances.<\/p>\n

What we didn\u2019t like\u2026 but kind of did?<\/strong> Ready or Not 2 is a textbook example of continuity errors gone unnoticed. Several sequences felt off, certain scenes were disjointed, and a couple of subplots were rushed. But here\u2019s the thing\u2026 we didn\u2019t mind, and here\u2019s why: this is the kind of low-stakes-disguised-as-high-stakes movie where you know the main character will make it out \u2014 and that made it easier to just enjoy the theatrics. If we were to describe this movie in one word, it\u2019s camp. <\/p>\n

Our verdict: <\/strong>Ready or Not 2 isn\u2019t your typical horror movie, nor a full-fledged comedy. It sits somewhere in the middle, and we found ourselves pleased by the balance it struck. If you\u2019re looking for a fun time and don\u2019t mind a little (lot of) blood, we\u2019d say grab a bucket of popcorn and get going. <\/p>\n
