\ud83c\udf7d\ufe0f\ud83c\uddea\ud83c\uddec Zamalek is never short on good food sourced from <\/strong>every corner of the world \u2014 but an authentic Egyptian restaurant?<\/strong> We had to stop in and try it out for ourselves. Tashet Toot<\/a>, as the name suggests, is all about classic Egyptian staples.<\/p>\n

The general feel:<\/strong> Tashet Toot is located smack in the heart of Zamalek amidst a number of art galleries. The venue spans several floors, divided between spacious indoor and outdoor arrangements. Tashet Toot is heavy on the Pharaonic motifs too \u2014 but strikes the right balance without too much happening visually.<\/p>\n

What we liked:<\/strong> We were hungry, so we opted for quite a few dishes, including stuffed vegetables (mahshi), macarona b\u00e9chamel, a meat casserole (wara\u2019et lahma), and grills. The meat casserole was the undisputed star of the experience \u2014 it tasted like it just came out of a loving grandmother\u2019s oven.<\/p>\n

As for the grills, they passed the test with flying colors too. <\/strong>The shish tawook was perfectly seasoned and tender, and the same could be said for all the meat dishes, which seem to be Tashet Toot\u2019s area of expertise. The salads were also fresh, adding a refreshing touch that balanced the main courses.<\/p>\n

What we didn\u2019t like:<\/strong> A few dishes didn\u2019t quite rise to the occasion, including the macarona b\u00e9chamel, which fell short on account of its consistency \u2014 that said, we still helped ourselves to seconds and thirds.<\/p>\n

Our final verdict? <\/strong>If you're looking for an Egyptian-style dining experience that is simple and simply good in a family-friendly atmosphere, Tashet Toot should be on your itinerary.<\/p>\n
