DEBT-<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Finance Ministry is looking to issue its newly debuted Citizen Bonds <\/strong>on a monthly basis<\/a><\/strong>.<\/strong> Each new issuance will feature a variable interest rate determined by market conditions at the time of offering.<\/p>\n

ECONOMY-<\/strong><\/p>\n

#1- The IMF Executive Board <\/strong>completed its fifth and sixth reviews<\/a><\/strong> of our USD 8 bn Extended Fund Facility (EFF) as well as its first review of our Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF)<\/strong>, allowing for the immediate disbursement of USD 2.3 bn \u2014 USD 2 bn from the EFF and USD 273 mn from the RSF.<\/p>\n

#2- Egypt\u2019s draft budget for FY 2026-27 is shaping up as a <\/strong>statement of recovery<\/a><\/strong>. <\/strong>The plan will focus on narrowing the deficit, boosting revenues, and containing the pace of spending growth.<\/p>\n

#3-<\/strong> Egypt is <\/strong>eyeing a return to the EUR-denominated bond market<\/a><\/strong> for the first time in years, with the Finance Ministry weighing a EUR 1 bn issuance in 2Q 2026<\/p>\n

TRANSPORTATION-<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Transport Ministry is set to bring <\/strong>125 out-of-operation locomotives back to life<\/a><\/strong> under a USD 297 mn agreement with Advanced Power Dynamics. <\/strong>The 12-year contract to rehabilitate aging Henschel locomotives is in line with the government\u2019s strategy of maximizing the efficiency of its existing fleet.<\/p>\n

STARTUP WATCH- <\/strong><\/p>\n

E-commerce infrastructure platform Flextock <\/strong>secured USD 12.6 mn<\/a><\/strong> in a Series A round led by TLcom Capital. <\/strong>The raise brings Flextock\u2019s total funding to date to USD 15.8 mn, having also closed a USD 3.25 mn pre-seed round in 2021.<\/p>\n

HEALTHCARE-<\/strong><\/p>\n

The gov\u2019t is <\/strong>moving to offload<\/a><\/strong> the management, operation, and service efficiency upgrades of 62 healthcare projects to the private sector<\/strong>, as it seeks to shift from state-led construction to private-led operation.<\/p>\n

LOGISTICS-<\/strong><\/p>\n

The state is <\/strong>earmarking EGP 8 bn<\/a><\/strong> to develop Damietta Port<\/strong> ahead of opening up the dock to international management tenders and a future public offering.<\/p>\n

BANKING-<\/strong><\/p>\n

CIB is set to begin due diligence on HSBC Egypt\u2019s retail banking portfolio.<\/strong> This is the first formal confirmation<\/a> that a process which could see HSBC divest its retail franchise here has moved beyond the exploratory phase.<\/p>\n

MANUFACTURING-<\/strong><\/p>\n

Companies that invest in strategic industries<\/strong>, including automotive, appliances and engineering, food, and chemicals, will get a large discount<\/a> on their taxes spread over seven years.<\/p>\n

Islamic Cairo may soon welcome new private investors<\/strong>, as the government prepares to offer a selection of restored heritage sites<\/a> under public-private partnership schemes.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udf0d AROUND THE WORLD IN SEVEN DAYS- <\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It\u2019s <\/strong>been a Trump-dominated week in the global press<\/strong>, with other stories making the rounds as well \u2014 here\u2019s a quick rundown:<\/p>\n

The week started off with a return of US President Donald Trump\u2019s tariff spree<\/strong>, with the president announcing on Sunday that he is raising his previously imposed 10% global tariff to 15%<\/a> \u2014 \u201ceffective immediately.\u201d This followed a Supreme Court ruling issued last Friday that Trump\u2019s global tariff barrage exceeded his powers under federal law. <\/p>\n

Three days after the Supreme Court declared Trump\u2019s tariffs illegal, the US Customs and Border Protection agency <\/strong>said it would stop collecting tariffs<\/a><\/strong> imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. European officials warned the tariff hike would put EU-US trade agreements from last year at risk. The European Commission demanded full clarity on Washington\u2019s next steps and insisted the US honor the agreement, indicating it will accept no increase in US tariffs.<\/p>\n

The tariff hike was found to <\/strong>benefit China and Brazil most<\/a><\/strong> while heralding higher costs for US allies<\/strong>, namely the UK, the EU, and Japan. US allies are thought to suffer most as their exports have a higher proportion of steel, aluminum, and autos, which are covered by some tariffs that remain in place. Tariff-imposed global uncertainty led to a USD and BTC drop while gold prices rose.<\/p>\n

Trump dominated the headlines again on Wednesday with his State of the Union address<\/strong> \u2014 his longest speech on record, surpassing the 100-minute mark (watch, runtime: 1:58:18<\/a>). The speech brushed off concerns over the US economy, with Trump noting that the \u201croaring economy is roaring like never before.\u201d The president doubled down on his tariff policy and claimed that he had slowed inflation and driven the stock market to record heights. He failed to mention foreign policy or cost-of-living concerns, instead calling out Iran\u2019s nuclear ambitions and making his case for possible US military action against the country. <\/p>\n

The tech industry also got its fair share of headlines this week.<\/strong> Following India\u2019s Global AI Summit, tech giants vowed massive investment of hundreds of bns USD<\/a> into Indian AI efforts as the South Asian nation pushes for AI superpower status. Microsoft said that it was on track to invest USD 50 bn in AI in the Global South, while other US tech firms announced partnerships with Indian companies.<\/p>\n

Another tech sell-off took center stage:<\/strong> IBM was the latest victim of the AI scare, ending Monday down 13.2%<\/a> \u2014 its most drastic dip in 25 years \u2014 after Anthropic claimed its Claude Code offering could automate much of the work done by solutions currently provided by the tech giant. Shares of other cybersecurity companies \u2014 Cloudflare, CrowdStrike, and Palo Alto Networks \u2014 also plunged.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, a <\/strong>new agreement was<\/a><\/strong>announced<\/a><\/strong><\/a><\/strong> between Meta and Advanced Micro Devices.<\/strong> Meta is buying USD 60 bn worth of computing power, which will power its AI infrastructure over a five-year stretch starting in 2H 2026. AMD issued Meta a warrant for up to 160 mn shares \u2014 approximately 10% of the company \u2014 at a strike price of just USD 0.01 per share, contingent upon Meta hitting specific milestones and AMD hitting a set stock price threshold.<\/p>\n

AND-<\/strong> Nvidia\u2019s latest earnings came in<\/a> yesterday. The most valuable company in the world reported record revenues of USD 68.1 bn for the three-month period ending in January, up 73% y-o-y, driven by data center revenues. Despite this, investor <\/a>reactions proved lukewarm<\/a><\/a>. The concern lies in how Nvidia can maintain its growth momentum while spending is flowing into AI-related capex.<\/p>\n

ALSO-<\/strong> The killing of Mexican drug lord Nemesio Oseguera<\/a> in a military raid on Sunday dominated the global press. Following the news, violent protests erupted across Mexico, with 250 blockades reported in 20 states. <\/p>\n

CLOSER TO HOME-<\/strong> The Gaza Board of Peace is looking to roll out a stablecoin in Gaza<\/a>, allowing Palestinians in the strip to transact digitally. <\/p>\n
