The new prices came into effect at 3am this morning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Here\u2019s what you\u2019re paying now:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>95-Octane<\/strong> is now priced at <strong>EGP 24.00 <\/strong>per liter, up 14.3% from EGP 21.00;<\/li>\n<li><strong>92-Octane <\/strong>rose to <strong>EGP 22.25<\/strong> per liter, up 15.6% from EGP 19.25;<\/li>\n<li><strong>80-Octane<\/strong> is now <strong>EGP 20.75<\/strong> per liter, a 16.9% increase from EGP 17.75;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Diesel <\/strong>price climbed to<strong> EGP 20.50<\/strong> per liter, up 17.1% from EGP 17.50;<\/li>\n<li>The price of<strong> compressed natural gas <\/strong>for automobiles rose to EGP 13.00 per cbm, up 30.0% from EGP 10.00;<\/li>\n<li><strong>12.5-kg gas cylinders <\/strong>are now priced at <strong>EGP 275 <\/strong>per cylinder, a 22.2% increase from EGP 225.00; while 25-kg gas cylinders rose 22.2% to <strong>EGP 550<\/strong> from EGP 450;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Not without justification: <\/strong>The ministry said the hike is the result of the \u201cexceptional situation resulting from the geopolitical developments in the Middle East region and their direct effects on global energy markets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>What we\u2019re watching for: <\/strong>We\u2019ll be on the lookout for how the hike impacts inflation, which dipped to a four-month low in January, giving us reason to believe the CBE will be more aggressive with its easing cycle. Now with fuel prices up, we expect food and transport prices to follow, raising inflation and making the road towards lower rates more rocky.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>We\u2019re waiting for February\u2019s inflation reading<\/strong>, which Capmas is expected to release within hours.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Mixed signals from Donald Trump are making it very hard for us to imagine where global oil <\/strong><strong>prices might head. <\/strong>Despite saying that an end to the conflict is near, the US president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-03-09\/trump-insists-i-have-a-plan-as-oil-prices-surge-on-iran-war?srnd=homepage-middle-east\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threatened<\/a> bombing \u201cat a much, much harder level\u201d if Tehran disrupted oil supplies. The administration aims to keep down oil prices after they \u201cwent artificially up\u201d following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, Trump said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Tehran isn\u2019t backing down:<\/strong> Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/middle-east\/khameneis-hardline-son-mojtaba-appointed-irans-new-leader-pope-leo-warns-middle-2026-03-09\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> it would not allow \u201cone liter of oil\u201d to leave the region if US-Israeli strikes continue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>And on the exchange rate front: <\/strong>The EGP slid to 53 against the USD yesterday as foreign investors pulled USD 411 mn from the local debt market. In the days ahead, policymakers and the business community will be closely watching to see if progress is made to end the war and if the worst-case economic scenarios will be avoided.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>Until this morning, the narrative had been about preparing for the worst<\/strong>, with the Madbouly government <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EgyptianCabinet\/posts\/1501486092021806?ref=embed_post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rolling out measures<\/a> to rationalize spending and consumption and raise the minimum wage \u201cwithin days,\u201d in a bid to mitigate the spillover effects of the regional war on Egypt\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong>***<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding: 0;margin: 0;line-height: 1.15;text-align: left\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/omny.fm\/shows\/enterpriseam-egypt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WISH THIS MORNING\u2019S ISSUE was a podcast?
