\ud83c\udfa4\ud83c\udf78 Sometimes<\/strong> you<\/strong> need a cocktail, oftentimes you need a good chuckle, and most <\/strong>days you could use both.<\/strong> American journalist and co-host of the From Cairo<\/a> podcast Eric Knecht will take the stage at Maadi\u2019s The Atrium tonight to kick off Shadow Comedy and Unapologetic Cocktails<\/a> \u2014 a night where comedy goes uncensored and the cocktails just keep flowing. <\/p>\n

Featuring a slew of both established comedians and brave first-timers, the evening is set to be all about spontaneity and community.<\/strong> \u201cIn the US, open mics are very popular, and that\u2019s a little different here. In Egypt, comedy is more set \u2014 it\u2019s orchestrated, and I kind of wanted to bring a little bit of the open mic chaos to the Egyptian scene,\u201d Knecht tells EnterpriseAM. \u201cOpen mics are often how people become comedians, some people might not think they got what it takes, then they give it a shot and end up making entire careers out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alongside the unfiltered comedy, there\u2019ll be plenty of equally <\/strong>daring<\/strong> cocktails incorporating traditional Egyptian flavors, courtesy of <\/strong>Mashareeb<\/strong>.<\/strong> \u201cOn a daily basis, we\u2019re surrounded by certain flavors like Sobia or Doum that you likely won\u2019t run into anywhere else. We\u2019re trying to use those to create a mass appeal around cocktails\u2026 and depart from the usual mojitos and whiskey sours that are offered everywhere,\u201d Mashareeb Co-founder Omar Orfaly tells us. <\/p>\n
