We <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2025\/12\/17\/will-plans-to-ipo-banque-du-caire-make-the-imf-happy\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">previously reported<\/a> that up to 30% could be on offer, but the math speaks in favor of a larger offering. The official we spoke with suggested a 30-40% stake could be up for grabs \u2014 the upper end of that range would be an improvement, but we\u2019d prefer to see 49%. That\u2019s the maximum that selling shareholder Banque Misr is allowed to part with under listing regulations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Why larger? Investor appetite for Banque du Caire was strong<\/strong> in an early-look roadshow that saw CEO Hussein Abaza and CI Capital investment bankers sit with potential cornerstone investors from across the world. The roadshow stopped late last year for investors in London, New York, the UAE, and South Africa. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Heavy appetite from potential international investors speaks to an order book that could <\/strong><strong>fill up quickly. <\/strong>At 30%, that would have bankers scrambling to fit in non-anchor international investors as well as local institutions \u2014 and they\u2019ll still want overhead left for retail investors who provide the daily trading liquidity that allow institutions to get into and out of positions. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Officials would like to see BdC go to market in the April-June window<\/strong>, the official said, confirming our reporting of late last year. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SOUND SMART #1- Anchor investors are funds that could have the appetite and AUM <\/strong><strong>base to write a meaningful ticket<\/strong> for an IPO that, in this case, could be worth up to USD 500 mn. Anchor investors are typically assured they\u2019ll get whatever size stake they ask for, but would customarily have to agree to a lockup period. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Uhm, Enterprise? You said *two* things to watch? <\/strong>Yep. The other is market conditions. With investors in a risk-off posture amid the war in the Gulf, the first thing that usually gets shelved is an IPO. That officials are trying to stay the course is a good thing \u2014 it\u2019s still early days \u2014 but <strong>don\u2019t read this as a policy failure if they put the sale on ice<\/strong>. If it slips, bankers could still try to catch the fall IPO window if investor sentiment improves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Banque du Caire isn\u2019t the only state-owned bank that could be on the auction block. <\/strong>A piece of Arab African International Bank \u2014 Hassan Abdalla\u2019s alma mater \u2014 may be up for grabs, and we\u2019ve <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/01\/28\/is-egypt-looking-to-exit-its-stake-in-alexbank-via-ipo\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">previously reported<\/a> that officials want to part with the 20% of Alexbank that\u2019s not owned by Italy\u2019s Intesa Sanpaolo. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>With drones and interceptors flying in the Gulf, last week was a surprisingly busy week for <\/strong><strong>the privatization program<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong> In addition to pushing for progress on the BdC sale, officials told us they plan to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/03\/04\/govt-signals-privatization-is-war-proof-with-plans-to-temporarily-list-13-companies-this-month\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">temporarily list<\/a> 13 state-owned companies and that the Sovereign Fund of Egypt is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterpriseam.com\/egypt\/2026\/03\/05\/fiscal-pressures-mount-for-egypt-as-cds-levels-rise\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">seeking an investment bank<\/a> to quarterback the upcoming IPO of Misr Life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>SOUND SMART #2- With BdC, the building blocks of a strong IPO are in place.<\/strong> CEO Hussein Abaza \u2014 a perennial favorite among emerging markets investors and a multi-time Extel honoree \u2014 has sharpened the bank\u2019s competitive edge, which includes unique brand equity and a strong balance sheet.
