?\u201cGrok, put her in a bikini.\u201d<\/strong> Over the past few days, social media, particularly X, has been flooded with a slew of NSFW imagery of individuals \u2014 men, women, and even minors \u2014 semi-naked and dressed in a smorgasbord of revealing undergarments. They\u2019re all deepfakes \u2014 and they\u2019ve never been easier to generate. The culprit? Grok. The prompt? A five-word sentence. The aftermath? Catastrophic.<\/p>\n

\u2026And it\u2019s happening right before our eyes.<\/strong> X users with public profiles have found themselves victims of what the public AI model with over 30 mn active monthly users is calling<\/a> a \u201clapse in safeguards,\u201d allowing other users to generate realistic non-consensual sexual imagery using published media by mentioning and prompting Grok in the replies \u2014 results shared publicly and instantaneously. In a matter of hours, feeds were spammed, Reuters<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are isolated cases where users prompted for and received AI images depicting <\/strong>minors in minimal clothing<\/strong> [...] Improvements are ongoing to block such requests entirely,\u201d Grok posted on X \u2014 but the deepfakes kept coming, and it didn\u2019t take long for the alarms to sound. On Friday, French authorities began investigating these deepfakes after two lawmakers reported the matter to the prosecutor\u2019s office, which noted that the offense is punishable by two years' imprisonment and a EUR 60k fine, Politico<\/a> reports. India followed suit, its IT Ministry issuing an order directing Musk to to take corrective action, according to TechCrunch<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For Musk, it was business as usual<\/strong>, with the b\u2019naire reacting<\/a> to his favorite deepfakes \u2014 including ones featuring Musk in a bikini himself \u2014 with laugh-cry emojis. \"The platform has been allowing the creation and distribution of these images for months without taking any action and we have yet to see any challenge by regulators,\" Durham University Law Professor Clare McGlynn told<\/a> the BBC. \u201c[X or Grok] could prevent these forms of abuse if they wanted to,\u201d McGlynn added. It\u2019s worth mentioning that XAI\u2019s policy prohibits depicting likenesses of persons in explicit manners. Musk\u2019s solution<\/a> ? Essentially a verbal slap on the wrist with no real action noted.<\/p>\n

Yet, would they want to put it to an end? <\/strong>In the days following the \u201csafeguard lapses,\u201d Grok and X topped app store charts and Google searches, Musk claims<\/a> \u2014 and one can easily surmise why: sex<\/a><\/a>sells<\/a>. Could Grok\u2019s latest security hiccup be a carefully calculated update to test the waters of AI-generated R-rated content? After all, OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT isn\u2019t that far behind on the NSFW front, with the AI giant set to introduce<\/a> adult content for \u201cverified\u201d adult users, the Guardian reported earlier in October.<\/p>\n

What was once a frightening \u201cwhat if\u201d is now our dystopian reality. <\/strong>Deepfakes have become all too common \u2014 explicit or otherwise. Over 50% of online articles are AI generated<\/a>, as are 20%<\/a> of videos shown to YouTube users. \u201cDeepfakes will become mainstream, and the threat will shift from reputational damage to direct monetization by bad actors,\u201d market research company Forrester says in its 2026 Trust and Privacy Prediction Report<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
