THE BIG STORY TODAY-<\/p>\n

? Four Gulf banks will subscribe in our first-ever local sukuk issuance <\/strong>hitting the market tomorrow<\/strong>, with settlement scheduled for the day after, according to a document seen by EnterpriseAM. The first EGP 3 bn, three-year tranche of the program will be an ijara issuance \u2014 a leasing-based Islamic security \u2014 linked to assets owned by the Finance Ministry<\/a> in the Red Sea\u2019s Ras Shukeir area, a source told us last week.<\/p>\n

Who\u2019s interested?<\/strong> Our maiden local sukuk issuance has attracted the interest of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Kuwait Finance House, Faisal Islamic Bank, and Al Baraka Islamic Bank, in addition to primary dealers from our banking sector, a senior government source told EnterpriseAM. \u201cThis involvement is expected to enhance the competitiveness of the new issuances,\u201d our source told us.<\/p>\n

Strong bank appetite prompted the Finance Ministry to quadruple its wider sukuk <\/strong>program to EGP 200 bn <\/strong>planned for the fiscal year, a senior government source told us. This represents eightfold the target of the original program, before being doubled<\/a> last month amid strong appetite. This comes after several meetings between officials from the Finance Ministry and representatives from 15 banks to further raise the program value.<\/p>\n

THE BIG STORY ABROAD-<\/p>\n

? US<\/strong> President Donald Trump\u2019s threat of military action against Nigeria is <\/strong>leading the digital front pages this afternoon<\/strong>, ordering the Pentagon to begin military planning. Trump also threatened to cut off aid to the West African nation, effective immediately, accusing them of failing to thwart the persecution of Christians in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the Nigerian government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the [US] will <\/strong>immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria<\/strong>, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, \u2018guns-a-blazing,\u2019 to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,\u201d Trump said<\/a> on Truth Social. \u201cIt will be fast, vicious, and sweet,\u201d the Nobel Peace Prize self-nominee said.<\/p>\n

Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu rejected the accusations<\/strong>, affirming Nigeria\u2019s constitutional assurances of religious liberty in a statement<\/a> published on X. \u201cThe characterisation of Nigeria as religiously intolerant does not reflect our national reality, nor does it take into consideration the consistent and sincere efforts of the government to safeguard freedom of religion and beliefs for all Nigerians,\u201d the statement reads.
