Private credit funds are seeing record investments from wealth<\/strong>y investors<\/strong>, offsetting weaker demand from large institutions, the Financial Times<\/a> reports. 1H 2025 saw US investors alone plow USD 48 bn into private credit funds, surpassing the FY total for 2023 and on track to beat the USD 83.4 bn record set in 2024, according to investment bank RA Stranger.<\/p>\n

Policy tailwinds are reshaping the market: <\/strong>In August, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order allowing private equity and credit into 401k retirement plans<\/a>. Managers had long lobbied for access to retirement savers, and are increasingly tailoring products for this retail base. Moody\u2019s has called the shift \u201cone of the biggest new growth frontiers in the industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Blackstone remains the dominant player<\/strong>, with its Bcred fund drawing USD 6.5 bn YTD and USD 11.7 bn over the past 12 months. On average, more than USD 50 mn of fresh orders are placed daily, helping lift Bcred\u2019s assets to USD 73 bn, up more than 50% in two years.<\/p>\n

Rivals are closing in: <\/strong>Apollo Debt Solutions raised USD 6.4 bn over the past year, Blue Owl took in around USD 7 bn across two funds, and Ares collected USD 5 bn. Cliffwater, a smaller manager, has emerged as a major competitor, attracting nearly USD 11 bn to a fund now worth over USD 30 bn. That competition has chipped away at Blackstone\u2019s dominance, with its share of the non-traded BDC market falling to 28%, compared to an almost 90% market share in 2021.<\/p>\n

Europe is seeing similar momentum: <\/strong>Assets in evergreen private debt funds \u2014 vehicles that don\u2019t wind down and allow continuous inflows \u2014 more than doubled y-o-y to EUR 24 bn by June, Novantigo data shows. The number of such funds has jumped from six in 2022 to 37 this year, with Blackstone, Ares, and HPS among those fundraising.<\/p>\n

The boom comes as institutional appetite wanes. <\/strong>Preqin data shows commitments from pensions and endowments have declined each year since 2021, amid a broader downturn in the leveraged buyout industry as it struggles to return capital and generate fresh inflows.<\/p>\n

Still, concerns linger that the flood of banknotes could weigh on returns. <\/strong>\u201cIt\u2019s a tricky investment environment driven by the imbalance between supply and demand of capital,\u201d Sixth Street\u2019s Joshua Easterly said, adding, \u201c[c]ompetition is elevated, and it\u2019s increasingly difficult to generate outsized returns.\u201d<\/p>\n

The EGX30 was flat at <\/strong>yesterday\u2019s<\/strong> close<\/strong> on turnover of EGP 4.4 bn (0.4% below the 90-day average). Local investors were the sole net buyers. The index is up 18.2% YTD.<\/p>\n

In the green: <\/strong>Palm Hills Development (+3.8%), EFG Holding (+1.9%), and Orascom Development (+1.8%).<\/p>\n

In the red: <\/strong>Rameda (-1.7%), CIB (-1.6%), and Credit Agricole (-0.8%).<\/p>\n

CORPORATE ACTIONS-<\/p>\n

#1- CIB\u2019s general assembly will vote on raising the lender\u2019s issued and <\/strong>paid-in capital by <\/strong>EGP 3.1 bn to EGP 33.8 bn <\/strong>when it meets on 25 September, according to an EGX disclosure<\/a>(pdf)<\/a>. The move would see the country\u2019s largest private sector lender by market cap issue 307.1 mn bonus shares at a ratio of one share for every ten held.<\/p>\n
