THE BIG STORY TODAY-<\/p>\n

China Energy E<\/strong>ngineering Corporation (<\/strong>CEEC<\/a><\/strong>) is <\/strong>looking to <\/strong>invest<\/strong> USD 1 bn into <\/strong>Egypt over the next five years in desalination, renewables, and energy storage<\/strong>, according to a statement<\/a> from the cabinet. The announcement follows Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly\u2019s meeting with CEEC\u2019s chairman in China\u2019s Tianjin, on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus summit.<\/p>\n

The gov\u2019t is offering incentives and pushing the company to help localize <\/strong>components for renewables and desalination<\/strong>, as Egypt works to meet an additional 5-6 GW of annual demand for renewable energy. Also part of the government\u2019s energy and desalination plans are exporting power to Europe, boosting renewables to 20%<\/a> of the energy mix in FY 2025-26, and ramping up desalination to 10 mn cbm\/day within five years \u2014 up from 1.4 mn cbm\/day.<\/p>\n

THE BIG STORY ABROAD-<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a relatively calm afternoon in the business press, with India and China setting aside their differences amid Trump\u2019s tariff wars getting the most ink<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed that <\/strong>both countries are developing a growing trust following years of tension and political disputes<\/strong>. Both leaders met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit \u2014 which was also attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin alongside other global leaders \u2014 in the Chinese city of Tianjin. The summit marked the Indian PM\u2019s first visit to China in seven years. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt is the right choice for both sides to be friends,\u201d<\/strong> President Xi said, noting that there is now an \u201catmosphere of peace and stability\u201d between both Asian countries. The amicable meeting follows Trump\u2019s steep 50% tariffs on India that went into effect last week, and are among the highest ever charged \u2014 on par with the tariffs on China.
