The Chinese side will act as the technical investor, while the other partners\u2019 roles in the project were not disclosed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The details: <\/strong>The industrial complex \u2014 dubbed Atom Solar Egypt \u2014 will include three factories with a combined production capacity of 2 GW of solar cells \u2014 all of which will be exported \u2014 2 GW of solar modules \u2014 which will feed the domestic and regional markets \u2014- and a 1 GWh energy storage systems plant. The project will be completed within 3 years and will create 841 jobs. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>We had an idea this was coming: <\/strong>GSU inked an MoU with JA Solar in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/143898ae-4a18-4a99-aad1-354c56140c1b\/egypt,-uae-ink-investments-for%253cmark%253e-solar%253c%2Fmark%253e-plants,%253cmark%253e-solar%253c%2Fmark%253e-parts-factories,-and-renewables-focused-industrial-zone\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">November<\/a> to establish two solar power factories \u2014 a solar cells plant and a solar panels plant<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Not the first of its kind: <\/strong>Earlier this summer, China\u2019s Sunrev Solar <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/44e4cf6b-5b7c-4a1a-b959-78e1f1040e84\/china%25e2%2580%2599s-sunrev-to-develop-usd-200-mn%253cmark%253e-solar%253c%2Fmark%253e-power-component-production-complex\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">inked a contract<\/a> with the China-Egypt TEDA trade zone to build a USD 200 mn integrated industrial complex for solar energy components. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>REMEMBER- <\/strong>Both complexes align with Egypt\u2019s broader <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/0c63a1e3-9d75-4490-864e-ba087d245a77\/egypt-wants-to-localize-the-manufacture-of-12-products\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">strategy<\/a> to localize 12 strategic industrial components, which includes solar cells, alongside electric motors, control panels, and elevators and others. The strategy aims to not only reduce the country\u2019s import bill \u2014 and resultant strain on FX resources \u2014 but to also export these components.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>There\u2019s more to the story: <\/strong>Chinese solar power component manufacturers have been moving their production facilities to Egypt and the rest of the MENA region as they face pressure in their home market due to ongoing trade wars and geopolitical friction.
