Israeli<\/strong> Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's words in support of a <\/strong>Greater Israel are <\/strong>\u201ca blatant and dangerous violation of the rules of international law<\/strong> and the foundations of stable international relations,\u201d the foreign ministers of 31 Arab and Islamic nations \u2014 including our own \u2014 alongside the heads of the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Gulf Cooperation Council said in a joint statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n

IN CONTEXT-<\/strong> The joint statement follows Netanyahu's comments last Tuesday where he told Israeli broadcaster i24 that he \u201cvery much\u201d feels a connection with the vision of Greater Israel \u2014 an expansionist idea of Israel that includes parts of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.<\/p>\n

The joint statement also condemned the West Bank settlement plan<\/strong>, which Israeli Finance Minister Bezalal Smotrich says will \u201cbury the idea of a Palestinian state\u201d by cutting off occupied East Jerusalem.<\/p>\n

Palestine also topped the agenda of <\/strong>Egypt\u2019s<\/strong> Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty\u2019s calls with his <\/strong>European counterparts over the weekend<\/strong>, speaking with French FM Jean-No\u00ebl Barrot<\/a>, British Foreign Secretary David La<\/a>mmy<\/a>, and German FM Johann Wadephul<\/a> to coordinate efforts to secure a Gaza ceasefire and increase humanitarian access, according to statements. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt\u2019s rejection of settlement expansion and occupation entrenchment, while praising France and the UK\u2019s intention to recognize Palestine as a state, urging a broader recognition drive at the upcoming UN General Assembly in September.<\/p>\n

Abdelatty also spoke with EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean <\/strong>Dubravka \u0160uica<\/a><\/strong> and <\/strong>EU <\/strong>foreign policy chief <\/strong>Kaja Kallas<\/a><\/strong> to discuss Gaza developments and reiterate Egypt\u2019s stance on the subject.
