Flend\u2019s<\/strong> mission to e<\/strong>xp<\/strong>and SME financing in Egypt is getting a USD 3 mn boost<\/strong>, which the company raised in a blended financing round of equity and debt, the homegrown startup said in a statem<\/a>ent (pdf)<\/a>. The equity round was led by fintech-focused accelerator Egypt Ventures, with participation from Camel Ventures, Banque Misr, Riyadh\u2019s Sukna Ventures, Abu Dhabi\u2019s Plus VC, and others. Meanwhile, debt was provided by the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Agency and local banking partners.<\/p>\n

Where\u2019s the money going? <\/strong>The fresh capital will be deployed to expand Flend\u2019s \u201cembedded financing through partnerships with leading digital platforms serving SMEs,\u201d according to the statement. The funds will also go toward hiring a larger team and deepening its \u201cproprietary tech infrastructure to serve Egypt\u2019s USD 50 bn SME financing gap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Flend?<\/strong> Flend is the country\u2019s first Financial Regulatory Authority-regulated SME financing<\/a>platform<\/a>, which offers \u201cshort-term working capital through a fully digital process, from onboarding and credit scoring to disbursement and collection,\u201d according to the statement. \u201cBy embedding financing at the point of commerce, Flend improves reach, reduces acquisition costs, and leverages richer data for better credit decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n
