The UN ap<\/strong>pointed Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad as the next Executive Secretary <\/strong>of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification<\/strong>, according to a statement<\/a> from the organization. Fouad will take up the three-year position later this year, succeeding Mauritania\u2019s Ibrahim Thiaw. A veteran of international climate diplomacy, Fouad brings more than 25 years of experience in environmental governance and sustainable development and has led Egypt\u2019s Environment Ministry since 2018. <\/p>\n
