The newest in a slate of emerging <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/ac03f5b0-c8e0-4e03-99b7-d061a014087f\/new-work-trends:-friend-or-foe%3F\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">work trends<\/a> is the refusal of leadership roles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>What\u2019s Gen Z been up to lately? Avoiding leadership.<\/strong> According to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/gen-z-consciously-unbossing-avoid-management-roles-preserve-mental-health-2025-4\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Business Insider<\/a>, a growing number of Gen Z professionals are practicing \u201cconscious unbossing,\u201d a shift in workplace dynamics that effectively entails refusing promotions that would put them in leadership positions, and instead, holding onto a stable, middle-of-the-pack position that allows them to prioritize personal wellness. In Landis\u2019 view, the unattractiveness of leadership positions for Gen Z does not mean a lack of initiative nor a refusal to work hard, but rather a shift in how existing workflows are perceived.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>There\u2019s no denying that Gen Z\u2019s corporate spirit is one that is indomitable<\/strong> \u2014 quiet <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">quitting<\/a> \u2014 and revenge quitting \u2014 attests to it. Micro-retirement \u2014 extended breaks from the workforce that ideally allow young professionals to pursue hobbies, passions, and enjoy life away from the pressures of a modern work life while they\u2019re still young \u2014 has also been surging in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/bryanrobinson\/2025\/01\/29\/micro-retirement-the-new-career-trend-rising-among-gen-z\/\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">popularity<\/a>. A loud refusal to abide by <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/e8af598a-225b-498b-b0eb-ef438c123b8e\/is%253cmark%253e-rto%253c%2Fmark%253e-the-solution-to-every-workplace-problem%3F\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">RTO<\/a> policies\u2026 Well, you get the gist. For Gen Z, it\u2019s their way or the Ring Road. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>So, what does this mean for businesses? <\/strong>If Gen Z is shirking leadership positions, who\u2019s going to be running the show? The fact remains that companies as they exist feed off the need for a leadership pipeline and some sort of hierarchy. What that will look like in the future, however, is up to businesses to figure out \u2014 and it seems that for some, <a target=\"_blank\"
