The numbers are similarly positive in the longer term, with the first seven months of the current fiscal year having seen an 81% y-o-y increase in remittances to some USD 20 bn \u2014 up from USD 11 bn during the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>That\u2019s two y-o-y record breaking months in a row:<\/strong> Remittances back in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/92d4538c-96e8-4aa0-9848-b0f293f17dc0\/%253cmark%253eremittances%253c%2Fmark%253e-from-egyptians-abroad-surge-51.3%2525-in-2024\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">December<\/a> reached USD 3.2 bn, in what was another all-time high for the month.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">\n<p class=\"tag-border-left\">THE BIG STORY ABROAD-<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>China puts forward terms that could open the door to trade talks with US: <\/strong>Beijing signals readiness to partake in trade talks with the US administration if a list of its conditions are met \u2014 these include the US \u201cshowing more respect\u201d by toning down \u201cdisparaging\u201d remarks made by members of the US cabinet, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-04-16\/china-open-to-talks-if-trump-shows-respect-names-point-person?srnd=homepage-middle-east\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports, citing an unnamed source. \u201cChina is looking for: respect, consistency and a point person,\u201d Societe Generale SA Greater China Economist Michelle Lam said. Trade relations between the two sides have been under threat since US President Donald Trump slapped Chinese goods with a 145% tariff, which Beijing retaliated against. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>MEANWHILE- Trade talks between the EU and US show little progress<\/strong>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-04-15\/eu-expects-most-us-tariffs-to-stay-as-talks-make-little-progress\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a> reports, citing sources familiar with the discussions.
