Fuel price h<\/strong>ikes dominated the airwaves last night,<\/strong> following the government\u2019s latest move to raise prices at the pump. Oil Ministry spokesperson Moataz Atef told Lamees El Hadidi on Kelma Akhira (watch, runtime: 10:09<\/a>) that the decision factored in global oil prices, import ratios, production costs, and the exchange rate. <\/p>\n

The hike will be felt by t<\/strong>ransport<\/strong> costs<\/strong>, which are set for 8-9.5% increase, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce\u2019s land transport division head Mansour El Breik told El Hadidi over the phone (watch, runtime: 4:04<\/a>).<\/p>\n

But the impact on home a<\/strong>ppliances<\/strong> is expected to be limited<\/strong>, Federation of Egyptian Industries\u2019 electrical appliances division head Hassan Mabrouk told El Hadidi, describing any forthcoming price increase as \u201cvery minimal\u201d (watch, runtime: 2:46<\/a>).<\/p>\n

But even with the increase in fuel prices, some goods including e<\/strong>ggs and poultry ar<\/strong>e <\/strong>getting cheaper<\/strong>, Poultry Producers Union Vice Chairman Tharwat El Zeiny told El Hadidi in a phone interview (watch, runtime: 5:01<\/a>). El Zeiny attributed the decline in prices to improved supply.<\/p>\n

Unsubsidized <\/strong>bread<\/strong> prices are expected to rise 25%<\/strong>, Bakeries Division head Abdullah Ghorab told Ala Masouleety\u2019s Ahmed Moussa (watch, runtime: 6:19<\/a>). However, the price of subsidized bread will remain unchanged, Supply Ministry undersecretary Nasser Thabet told Azza Moustafa on her show Al Sa\u2019aa Al Sadesa\u2019 (watch, runtime: 7:33<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Atef also reiterated the government\u2019s position that there will be no power outages next<\/strong> sumer<\/strong>, a message that had was conveyed on Thursday during Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly\u2019s most recent presser (watch, runtime: 1:06<\/a>)<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t just Lamees who covered the price hike<\/strong>, as the the topic got airtime across the networks, including on Al Hayah Al Youm (watch, runtime: 4:03<\/a>), Ala Masouleety (watch, runtime: 2:19<\/a>), and El Hekayah (watch, runtime: 5:24<\/a>).<\/p>\n
