This comes following months of mixed reports on which airports would make the cut in the government\u2019s plans to upgrade airport infrastructure and services with the help of private players. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Here\u2019s the lineup:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hurghada International Airport<\/li>\n<li>Sphinx International Airport<\/li>\n<li>Sharm El Sheikh International Airport<\/li>\n<li>Borg El Arab International Airport<\/li>\n<li>Luxor International Airport<\/li>\n<li>Aswan International Airport<\/li>\n<li>Sohag International Airport<\/li>\n<li>Assiut Airport<\/li>\n<li>Abu Simbel Airport<\/li>\n<li>El Alamein International Airport<\/li>\n<li>Marsa Matruh Airport<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\">(<strong>Tap or click the headline above to read this story with all of the links <\/strong>to our background as well as external sources.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>ICYMI- <\/strong>The IFC <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/75c7caa7-1141-41ca-94fc-bba4332e224f\/another-step-to-boost-private-sector-involvement-in-egypt%e2%80%99s-airports\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a> an agreement with the government earlier this week to advise on PPPs for the country\u2019s airports, helping it set a strategy \u201cfor partnership development with the private sector in 11 airports across Egypt, representing a significant portion of the country\u2019s domestic and international air travel.\u201d <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>One airport is noticeably absent: <\/strong>Contrary to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/7874a4be-3ea6-4270-a4ba-8b3ee2e39b1d\/private-investors-to-manage-five-major-egyptian%253cmark%253e-airports%253c%2Fmark%253e-in-the-first-phase-of-privatization-plans\" style=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">expectations<\/a>, Cairo International Airport is not among the airports selected for the first phase of the PPP program. <\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>Hurghada International Airport will serve as a pilot project for the program.<\/strong> IFC will help the government launch a tender to select a strategic private partner for maintaining, operating, and upgrading the airport. The Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation will maintain ownership of the airport, which is the nation's second-busiest by passenger volume and air traffic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>The program holds good potential for enhancing our tourism sector: <\/strong>\u201cThis program will help attract world-class investors to deliver modern, efficient airports that strengthen Egypt\u2019s position as a global travel and trade hub,\u201d said S\u00e9rgio Pimenta, IFC\u2019s Vice President for Africa. \u201cEnhancing Egypt\u2019s airport infrastructure through public-private partnership will drive economic growth and boost connectivity in the country and across the wider region,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding:0;margin:0;line-height:1.15;orphans:2;widows:2;text-align:left\"><strong>We already know global players are interested: <\/strong>Civil Aviation Minister Sameh Elhefny previously said that major global companies have expressed interest in managing Egyptian airports, including the three largest operators in Europe. Prior to that, Hassan Allam Holding and France\u2019s Groupe A\u00e9roports de Paris had <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/enterprise.news\/egypt\/en\/news\/story\/4b3571df-662a-4385-9c22-7d7d07800685\/hassan-allam-and-adp-france-submit-joint-proposal-to-manage-egyptian%253cmark%253e-airports%253c%2Fmark%253e\"
