Egypt and Qatar remain actively involved in ceasefire negotiations<\/strong>, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khallaf told CNN\u2019s Becky Anderson (watch, runtime: 11:03<\/a>) during an interview that focused on the latest in Gaza and Egypt\u2019s role in securing a ceasefire. \u201cThere is no other alternative except the ceasefire agreement in order to provide the needed calm and peace in Gaza,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Egypt continues to engage constructively with the US administration<\/strong>, most recently through Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty\u2019s meeting with US special envoy Steve Witkoff<\/a>. \u201cThe discussions were positive and constructive,\u201d he said, adding that ceasefire progress depends on international pressure on Israel, which he accused of pursuing an \u201cisolationist\u201d and \u201cobstructionist\u201d policy. <\/p>\n

Israel\u2019s ceasefire violations risk dangerous escalation:<\/strong> Khallaf condemned Israel\u2019s recent military escalation as \u201ca blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement,\u201d which he warned could be a \u201cserious development\u201d with dangerous \u201cripple effects.\u201d He described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as \u201ccatastrophic,\u201d adding that Israel is violating its legal obligations by blocking aid. \u201cIt is extremely condemnable that the state of Israel is in violation of international law and its responsibility as an occupying power to provide the necessary humanitarian access to the people in Gaza,\u201d he said. Khallaf pointed out Egypt has delivered 5k trucks of aid since the ceasefire agreement started and continues to push for de-escalation.<\/p>\n

On Gaza\u2019s future post-war, Khallaf outlined Egypt\u2019s three-phase reconstruction plan<\/strong> \u2014 now endorsed by all 22 Arab League members \u2014 which includes clearing rubble, building housing and infrastructure, and re-establishing governance under the Palestinian Authority. He said the plan is \u201cfeasible \u2026 operationally plausible [and] incrementally morphing into an internationally endorsed plan,\u201d despite initial hesitations from the White House. \u201cIf there are any suggestions or comments which our American partners would like to present, obviously, we will consider them and we will look at them with an open mind,\u201d Khallaf added.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/strong>Palestinians have the right to exercise <\/strong>their right for self-determination. <\/strong>They will need a country of their own,\u201d Khallaf said, reiterating that normalization with Israel across the Arab world hinges on the creation of an independent Palestinian state.<\/p>\n

AND- Witkoff thinks there is still room for ceasefire talks: <\/strong>The US special envoy believes \u201cthere have been signs\u201d that the ongoing negotiations could lead to resolution of the war in Gaza, but pointed out key differences between Israel and Hamas\u2019 goals that are stalling the negotiations, he said in an interview famous American political pundit Tucker CarIson (watch, runtime: 1:32:58<\/a>). <\/p>\n

\u201cWe presented a proposal at the Arab summit \u2026 that was a bridge to get to a peace deal<\/strong> to lead to the demilitarization of Hamas and a discussion about an enduring truce,\u201d Witkoff said, describing Hamas's reaction to it as \u201ccompletely inappropriate.\u201d Witkoff suggested that the US may be able to use Israel\u2019s recent military pressure to get Hamas to be a whole lot more reasonable because they have a lot of sway there. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
