This miniseries offers a closer look at one of the most important assassinations in US <\/strong>history.<\/strong> Manhunt<\/a> is a miniseries that dives into the 12-day search for the killer of US president Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth. Based on James L Swanson\u2019s Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln\u2019s Killer<\/a>, the show is a mix of historical drama with detective thriller. <\/p>\n

The premise: <\/strong>John Wilkes Booth (Anthony Boyle) and his gang weren\u2019t just aiming for Lincoln (Hamish Linklater) \u2014 they wanted to take out Vice President Andrew Johnson (Glenn Morshower) and Secretary of State William Henry Seward (Larry Pine), too. While Seward survived a knife attack and Johnson\u2019s would-be assassin chickened out, Booth did the unthinkable \u2014 shot Lincoln at Ford\u2019s Theater and escaped, setting off a nationwide manhunt. With the country in chaos and no clear leadership, Secretary of War Edwin Stanton (Tobias Menzies) takes charge, determined to bring Booth to justice and uncover any larger conspiracies that might reignite the war.<\/p>\n

Our verdict:<\/strong> The show jumps between past and present a lot, which can get confusing. But it does a great job showing how fragile the Union\u2019s victory was, and how significant resistance to Reconstruction really was. But at its core, it\u2019s all about the chase \u2014 old-school detective work, questionable allies, and a desperate race against time.<\/p>\n
